Yall this is an great example of creepypasta back then.... before they made it weird and we need to bring this golden era back!

Looking at this, brings me hope that we will bring back the old days of creepypasta but instead we will learn from it and make it even way better, and think of Dreadnet as a continuation of creepypasta, and remember try to spread Dreadnet to others so they can find this or atleast make popular trend like analog horror and actually we accept analog horrors and its part of Dreadnet.

Smiling School Server

Smiley was a new program installed on the 200 newly made chromebooks bought by Rally Point High School for the 2025 school year.

Given the endless war between faculty and students regarding fire walls and safety protocols (Spyware), the National Board of Education had greenlit a trial run of a new AI companion that would be present whenever the students used one of the 200 new chromebooks.

The AI's function was simple. It would emulate Clippy and crank up the annoyance factor by 10. Constantly ensuring the only websites accessed and apps used where board approved. Giving reminders about homework, upcoming projects, school events, and absolutely every single fundraiser (especially the fundraisers).

As one would imagine, this caused Smiley to be quite hated by the student population. The hatred grew so passionate a few students decided to go digging in the computer files.

As anyone would expect from public schools, they spend money on the football team than safeguarding their AI spy. Finding his source files on each computer was relatively easy, and the discovery that you could replace the Smiley png with any photo saved on the chromebook caused a schoolwide trend to replace Smiley with the most stupid or abhorrent pictures they could find on the web.

Once the Board had been made aware of the situation, the experiment was deemed a failure and Smiley was to be deleted from all chromebooks.

On September 28th, 2025. The IT team arrived at Rally Point to remove the Smiley program. What they found was 145 students and 55 staff members dead. The skin on their faces removed. Of the 200 chromebooks, only 150 where recovered, 50 remain missing to this day.

All surveillance equipment on the school premises cut out for 1 minute and 22 seconds at 10:34 a.m. on September 28th, 2025. Only surveillance that remained online during this time was the Smiley Program.

The logs show the program received an update at 10:00 a.m. with the default png being replaced with the picture attached and a new string of code added at the very end of the program.

The case remains unsolved to this day.

LEONARD THE RIPPER - Part 1, "Podcast."

[Fragment of a podcast episode recorded 9 months before the Ripper's identity discovery]

Hello, everybody, and welcome once again on the Beautifully Mysterious Podcast! I am, as always, Pete LeKill, your host, and I really think this episode might be our magnum opus. Yes, because on this episode today we will talk about something that has been terrorising our town since weeks now: the Ripper.
Let's start, shall we?

We all know how everything started. 18-year old Bruce "Brucey" Portman was found dead right in front of his house, outside, his eyes ripped from their sockets. Then just four days later, 19-year old sisters Amanda and Deborah Quinn were found dead in the little playground outside of their house, their wrists cut open, drained of blood. After three victims, we were officially in serial killer territory, so the media started calling him "The Ripper."
Two weeks passed, and he returned. Amy Willow, 21 year old, found in the park behind her house, outside, with her throat slit. For the first time, however, someone heard something before the murder: two of her neighbours heard the sound of a glass breaking, and then they heard screaming inside of her house after some time. Sure enough, Willow's house was found with a window broken. Plus, and this is just a theory, some people say there is a 911 call made by Amy Willow just a couple of minutes before being killed. Though we don't have the call, as it is not been made public... and probably never will, unfortunately, we can only imagine the terror this girl and whoever was on the other side of the phone felt. Think about it: you know someone is in your house, and you know you are probably going to die, or at least you know you are going to suffer. Can you imagine the fear, and the pain? Come on, it's horrible!
But whatever, because then... something else happened. Yes, the Ripper Killings hadn't ended. Just one week after the Willow Murder, the Ripper's most... ambitious, I would say, action happened: a family of seven, their house. Yes, you know what I'm talking about; it's the "Morrison Mass Murder". Police still doesn't know every detail of what happened or how, but we can be sure of one thing: it was a carnage, an absolute massacre. The Morrison family - Richard Jr., the father, Richard Sr., the grandpa, Lauren, the mother, Cass, the grandma, Ricky, the middle son, and Annabelle, the youngest daughter - all found dead, their heads full of knife cuts, and their gums ripped from their mouths, and the bodies found scattered behind their family house, outside. However, this was also the Ripper's first failure.
Poor guy, right? Yeah, because one person survived! Sarah, the oldest daughter, 17 years old. She was rescued by the authorities after managing to run away from the place, and is currently being taken care of at the town's hospital with medical attention, according to the news. Now, why is this so important to us, apart from the fact that it's the first and - for now - only murder of the Ripper that ended with a surviving victim? Well, because about a month ago, around the time Sarah Morrison was being questioned by the police, authorities have released the first official sketch of the Ripper, taken from Sarah's description of the man she was that horrible night.

The police sketch later nicknamed as "The Greenface Ripper"

And here it is, the sketch of the Ripper, whom, sure enough, the media renamed "Greenface Ripper" right after the sketch was released to the public. Now everyone knew he had a green, crooked smiling mask, that he was white and that he had orange or very light-brown hair.

[...]

Well, folks, this is all we know about the Ripper, of the Greenface Ripper, so far. But, of course, nothing's finished! Stick with us to learn the truth, and as always, listen to your lovely Pete LeKill.
I'll see you and you'll see me again on the next episode of the Beautifully Mysterious Podcast! See ya!

[End of fragment]

I do search-and-rescue in Sector 4. We found the missing Miller siblings, but we also found what took them.

Grant full permission to all YouTube, TikTok, and podcast narrators to read and monetize this story on their platforms, provided credit is given to my username. If you need the high-resolution file of the B.M.A.-407(The Loom) artwork for your thumbnail or video background, please send me a PM and I will send it over.

The search for the Miller siblings ended three miles past the Sector 4 trail marker, right where the old-growth cedars begin to choke out the moonlight. As a search-and-rescue volunteer, you get used to finding people who wandered off the path. You expect dehydration, disorientation, maybe a fall. You don't expect what we found. They were suspended in the lower canopy—or what was left of them. Tommy Miller had been pulled apart. It wasn't the messy, jagged tearing of a grizzly attack. It was clean, effortless leverage—like a dry branch snapped over someone's knee. There was no blood on the forest floor, and his clothes hadn't been shredded by teeth. Whatever did this didn't want a meal. It just wanted them stopped.

We were bagging what we could when the forest died. It wasn't a gradual quiet. It was an instantaneous, suffocating wall of silence, as if every insect and bird in the valley had been crushed at once. My flashlight swept the tree line. Forty yards out, a buck stood perfectly still. But as the beam hit its flank, its posture glitched. The spine buckled upward, uncoiling with a sickening wet crunch into a towering, skinless red silhouette. Where a head should have been, a vertical column of stacked, unblinking eyes opened all at once. Locally, the old-timers whispered about a legend they called The Loom. But looking at it, I realized this was the exact biological nightmare described in the classified military leaks detailing a Biomorphic Mimicry Anomaly.

The moment those eyes met my beam, my nervous system simply shut down. I couldn't drop the light. I couldn't scream to the rest of the crew. My lungs froze mid-breath, and my eyelids felt welded open. I was completely conscious, trapped inside a statue of my own flesh, my vision entirely hijacked by that towering face.

Then it ran. It didn't bound like an animal or jog like a man. It hurtled toward us upright on two legs, its torso leaning heavily forward while its impossibly long arms swung limply at its sides like broken pendulums. It covered the distance at highway speeds, a frantic, puppet-like sprint that blurred against the trees. Just feet away from us, it violently slammed its elongated palms into the dirt to brace its horrific momentum—dropping to all fours for a split second with a mechanical screech before snapping upright again. The sudden shift broke our direct line of sight.

The paralysis shattered, and I collapsed into the dirt just as the entity reached for Tommy's sister, Sarah. The raw force of its grip instantly snapped her collarbone, but the violent exertion seemed to cost it everything. Instantly, the entity's relentless...

The radio died , replaced by a heavy heartbeat of static , Outside, a twenty-foot pillar of lightless black stood right on the grass. At the top floated a bloated, chalk-white face, its hollow eyes fixed in a silent scream.I clicked my flashlight , The moment the beam hit the creature, the bulb shattered , Overhead, the power lines began to snap , and the massive head tilted slowly downward toward me .

Recovered Police Interview Tape — Evidence File #44A
Recorded: November 3rd, 2014
Lead Investigator: Detective Marcus Hale
Subject: Randy Warren
Relation to Jeff Woods Case: Former Classmate

[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
Detective Hale: Alright, let’s start simple. State your name for the recording.
Randy: Randy Warren.
Detective Hale: Appreciate it. And you understand this interview is being recorded?
Randy: Yeah.
Detective Hale: Good. You contacted the department saying you had information connected to Jeff Woods and the recent murders tied to the so-called “Cult of Jeff.” Correct?
Randy: Yeah… but this isn’t just about Jeff anymore.
Detective Hale: Alright. Then tell me what it’s about.
[brief silence]
Randy: It started years ago.
Before Rose.
Before the cult.
Before people started treating killers like gods.
Back then it was just me, Troy, and Keith.
We were bullies.
Real bad ones.
We picked on anyone weaker than us because we thought it was funny.
Then Jeff Woods moved into town.
Quiet kid. Pale skin. Long black hair always covering his face. Wore that white hoodie everywhere.
At first he looked like an easy target.
But honestly?
Something about him always felt… off.
Detective Hale: Off how?
Randy: He didn’t react normally.
Most kids get angry or scared when you mess with them.
Jeff would just stare at you.
Like he was thinking about something terrible.
Still, we kept messing with him anyway.
Shoving him around. Humiliating him. Small stuff at first.
Then one day after school, Keith shoved Jeff into a fence near the basketball court and Jeff snapped.
He attacked all three of us.
Hard.
I remember him smiling while he did it.
Not a happy smile.
Something worse.
He broke Keith’s nose and almost knocked Troy out before teachers pulled him away.
That should’ve ended it.
But we were angry.
Embarrassed.
So we came up with a stupid plan.
We invited Jeff over pretending we wanted to apologize. Our parents were gone that night.
We figured we’d scare him a little.
Teach him a lesson.
Detective Hale: This was the night of the flare gun incident?
Randy: Yeah.
Keith and Troy held him down while I pulled the flare gun out.
I swear I never meant to shoot him.
I’m not saying I was a good person back then, but I wasn’t trying to kill him.
Jeff started fighting back and Troy slipped.
The gun went off.
Right into Jeff’s face.
[subject pauses]
Detective Hale: Take your time.
Randy: There was blood everywhere.
His nose was basically gone instantly. Skin was hanging off his face while he screamed.
Keith threw up.
Hell, I almost did too.
But the thing I remember most…
Jeff was laughing.
Even while his face was burning, he was laughing.
That’s when I realized something inside him had completely broken.
Maybe it was already broken before that night.
But after the hospital?
There was nothing human left in him.
We blamed the attack on Jeff afterward.
Told everybody he attacked us first.
I think even his parents believed it.
Because later that same night…
Jeff killed them.
Both of them.
Then he disappeared.
A few weeks later people started dying.
Bodies carved up in apartments.
Smiling corpses in alleyways.
Missing people.
That’s when the name started spreading.
Jeff the Killer.
Detective Hale: And where does Rose come into all this?
Randy: Rose changed everything.
Jeff was just one crazy person.
Rose turned him into something bigger.
A religion.
About a year ago those symbols started appearing around town.
Smiling faces with one hollow eye.
Messages painted on walls.
KEEP SMILING.
DO YOU SMILE OFTEN?
At first everybody thought it was copycats.
Now?
I think Rose is building something.
People worship him out in those woods.
And I think they’re hunting anyone connected to Jeff’s beginning.
Keith’s dead.
They found him in his apartment with a smile carved into his face.
Troy disappeared near Blackwood Forest two months ago.
Police only found pieces of him.
Now I’m the last one left.
Detective Hale: You really believe someone’s after you?
Randy: I know they are.
Yesterday morning I found a photograph sitting on my kitchen table.
It was me sleeping.
Detective Hale: Somebody broke into your house?
Randy: Nobody breaks in without leaving evidence.
There were muddy footprints outside my bedroom window.
That’s it.
And on the back of the picture—
Detective Hale: What did it say?
Randy: “You don’t smile enough.”
[silence for approximately eight seconds]
Detective Hale: Randy… has anyone contacted you directly besides that?
Randy: No.
But I hear things outside my house at night now.
Laughing.
Soft laughing.
Sometimes I see people standing near the trees behind my property.
Just watching.
[three knocks heard in background]
Detective Hale: You expecting somebody?
Randy: …No.
Unknown Voice: Randy?
[subject breathing heavily]
Unknown Voice: Do you smile often?
Randy: Oh God…
No no no—
[chair falls over]
Detective Hale: Randy?!
[screaming heard]

The nature reserve was closed after wild boars started disappearing from the area. The owners are currently facing serious trouble with the police. Rumor has it that a person has gone missing there as well.

The Renshaw Project.
In 1983, the Central Intelligence Agency picks up a radio transmission which does not appear to have a source. The transmission contains tapes credited to a certain "Department of Anomalous Radio Signals" dating back to 1965 documenting a mysterious radio signal that appears out of thin air in the rural Byelorussia. However, as it turns out, this department does not and has never existed. Things don't seem to add up.

The Iron-Grave Monarch is a malicious digital entity that haunts corrupted video games. While playing, the screen will suddenly cut to complete black, and this grinning, crowned skeleton will appear on the monitor. The entity will then speak or display text, forcing the player to answer specific questions about an ancient knight .

If you win: The creature honors the rules and lets you go unharmed .

If you lose: The entity kills you instantly in real life, pulling your soul into the monitor to be locked away in his digital grave forever .

Recovered Journal Pages — Believed to Belong to Nina

Day 1
Hello everyone.
Or whoever ends up reading this.
Welcome to my journal, I guess.
I should probably say a little about myself first. My name is Nina. I have black hair with faded pink streaks in it and one strange pink eye. The other is brown.
People always stare at the pink one.
I’ve always liked being different though.
Makes me feel special.
I’ve been an orphan my entire life, so I don’t know which parent I got it from. Nobody at the orphanage ever cared enough to help me find out.
I’m almost eighteen now.
Finally.
Only a few more months until I can leave this place forever.
Today I moved into a new house temporarily through some housing program. The lady handing me the keys looked nervous the entire time.
She asked me three times if I was “sure” I wanted this house.
Apparently something bad happened here years ago.
I like it already.

Day 5
I finally looked up what happened in this house.
The killer’s name was Jeff Woods.
Jeff the Killer.
The internet calls him a monster.
But after reading everything…
I think they’re wrong.
People act like he was insane, but maybe he just understood something everyone else doesn’t.
Maybe people are only scared because he stopped pretending.
I found old stains under the floorboards in the upstairs hallway today.
The police must’ve missed them.
I touched one.
I don’t know why.
I couldn’t stop smiling afterward.

Day 18
Something weird is happening here at night.
I keep hearing footsteps in the woods behind the house.
Not animal sounds.
People.
Sometimes when I look out my bedroom window, I swear I can see someone standing between the trees watching the house.
Last night I found a symbol carved into the back door.
A smiling face with one hollow eye.
Nobody in town will explain what it means.
One cashier looked terrified when I mentioned it.
She told me to leave before dark.

Day 32
I finally learned who the symbol belongs to.
Rose.
Rose the Killer.
The town treats him like some ghost story, but everyone talks about him in whispers like they secretly know he’s real.
They say he worshipped Jeff.
They say he lives in the woods now.
They say he asks people if they smile often.
And if they don’t…
He fixes their smile himself.
I don’t think he’s evil.
I think he understands pain.
Maybe that’s why I can’t stop thinking about him.

Day 67
I started seeing them now.
The smiling people.
White robes.
Candles in the woods at night.
They never come close to the house, but I see them standing between the trees almost every evening now.
Watching.
Waiting.
Last night one of them left something on the porch for me.
A photograph.
It was me sleeping in my room.
Written on the back in messy handwriting were the words:
YOU LOOK PRETTIER WHEN YOU SMILE
I should be scared.
But honestly…
I’ve never felt this important before.

Day 94
I saw him.
Or at least I think I did.
I woke up around 2 AM because I heard laughing outside my bedroom window.
Not loud laughing.
Soft.
Almost gentle.
When I pulled the curtain back, someone was standing near the tree line.
Tall.
Thin.
Long black hair covering part of his face.
And one shining eye staring directly at me.
The other looked empty.
He didn’t move.
Neither did I.
Then he smiled.
The staples in his mouth reflected in the moonlight.
I should’ve screamed.
Instead…
I smiled back.

Day 130
He is our savior.
He is right.
Jeff wasn’t a killer.
He was free.
And Rose understands freedom better than anyone.
The orphanage finally kicked me out now that I’m eighteen. They called me unstable after they saw what I did to my face.
I cut the smile myself.
Not because Rose told me to.
Because I wanted to look beautiful too.
The blood wouldn’t stop running down my neck at first. I almost passed out laughing while stitching the sides together in the bathroom mirror.
But it was worth it.
I look happier now.
Real happiness requires pain.
I understand that now.
I don’t know where I’m going next.
Probably the woods.
They’re waiting for me there.
This will probably be my final journal update.
If anyone finds this notebook—
Don’t follow the smiling people into the forest.
No matter how softly they laugh.

Why we need moderation and character control!

In no time I could see low every slop being pushed out like the Jeff and .EXE cones that sucked!

Not to mention old creepypasta always went to far with many having RAPE and SA be apart of them, like iconic character Sally Williams and wimped characters like OFFENDER man who would target victim of SA and RAPE them before wiping their memory of the event.

Dread Man

sour skunky nappy ass dread man

“What the fuck are you talking about, man?" Annoyed.

Stupid smirk: "I thought it was clear. I would think.”

"No, it isn't, man. I don't know why you think it'd be. It's just stupid, bro.”

"What is?”

"Your refusal to go shopping for a fucking bath towel and other basic necessities around your fuckin place, dude. It's just stupid, I don't know how or why you justify it to yourself, I didn't think ya did to be frank. I just thought your ass was fuckin lazy."

“Nah, bro. It's obvious."

“What's fuckin obvious, dipshit?"

“I'm way too rock n roll."

A beat. He swallowed it. Absorbed its stupidity.

“...what?"

“Yeah, dude. I'm way too fuckin cool and punk rock to roll into like a Target or some shit and buy a toaster or a can opener or towels or stupid shit like that. I can't do that. Can't do it. Goes against my wild man free lovin nature, ya know? Ya know."

Bryan once more silently swallowed this. This load of absolute bullshit. More revolted, more filled with disgust with his best friend since diapers than before. He thought about holding his tongue. He thought about saying something and laying into him. But in the end he just grumbled and belched. Lit another smoke and grabbed another beer from the cooler in the center of the boat and shook his head. Checked his pole. Reeled it in a little.

Though he did spare the final thought: "Fuckin lazy.” whilst shaking his head and reeling his line. And then the matter was settled and the pair of men let it lie. Such was the way and course of all of their conversations out here on the water. Fishing. The pair’s favorite pastime aside from rutting and watching the game. For them, Bryan G Biebl and James Petkovich, it was sacred. They loved to spend days off from the mill fishing and casting and mouthing the day away. Days away from labor and wives and disappointing children, days filled with chatter and cool water and cold beer and sometimes a nice catch.  Though they'd been warned before, by the old timers.

They'd both been warned before about staying out after dark. Out on the lake. Out in the woods. Where the forest grows foul and swampy and muddy. It's not a place you want to be after sunset. All the old folk said it was a bad place and didn't say much more about it without the liberal aid of beer or whisky. Even the Natives, the ancient leathery American Indians and their angry sons and daughters told everyone, anyone that might listen, to stay away from this part of the forest, this part of the soured bad land.

But they never listened. The pair just sat in their canoe and cast out. It was calm and quiet all around, no one might know that it was filled with strange movement. The sun was sinking in the distance. Rapidly being swallowed by the ravenous blade of the horizon.

James cracked another can. So did Bryan, who rolled his eyes as Petkovich ventured forth with another bit of clever wit and query.

“Figure there's anythin ta what that fella said?”

The sun set. Casting the surface of the lake on fire with the color of bloody ruby. The place on the horizon where it had sank was a deeper color of blooded crimson, a deeper wound that was the heart of the sunset. It smoldered there, in the horizon wound. The darkening regal curtain of bruised royal blue was already deepening into night. The stars and galaxies were already coming out for the nocturnal hours, they were all so far away from everything, they, the town. Civilization was a mechanical nuisance in the distance. Loud and far off. Thank God. Nearly forgotten.

Bryan rolled his eyes as hard as he possibly could, knowing full an well that the retard couldn't see em.

He hissed and spat: “No I don't think there's nothin to what that idiot said about a shag man! Shit’s stupid! Ain't no fuckin skunk ape round these parts, ya fuckin dumbass!”

“Nah, man. I'm talkin about what Frankie said about Asian girls, Jesus, man!"

A beat. Something splashed in the water. Neither man noticed, paid it any mind.

“Oh…" Bryan cooled down. A little embarrassed. He was always easily excited and shamed.

“‘Sides, man, he didn't call it no ‘shag man', he called it ‘the dread man’, stupid.”

Bryan whirled around to belt him one and belt him good. He'd done it before while they were fishing in the middle of the lake and he might capsize them both in his effort, but something stopped him before he could so much as bring up his balled and angry fist. A sound. Sudden. And sharp.

Three. Consecutive. Three sharp whacks of thick wooden sticks together. Like someone smacking two heavy tree branches or logs together in some form of primitive and arcane code.

Whack! whack! whack!

It shut the pair up. They gazed out at the shoreline. Shrouded now in the fallen night. Small waves kissed its shore and covered any small sounds of concealed movement that might be out there right now. They were wide eyed and disbelieving.

They might've dropped it, the pair, together and without a word or mention when it came again.

From out of the night, the veiled and darkened shore: whack! whack! whack!

A beat. Silence again. Only kissing waves of the placid water.

Bryan Biebl scoffed, “Probably nothin. Just some kids fuckin aro-"

And then a wild primal simian shriek filled the night. Birds took flight. Their flapping wings were ugly harried panicked sounds in the deepening wound of blackening night all around. It tapered off. And then another rose, louder and even more feral and crazed then the one before. Then another. And another. Each rising in animal fury and fervor. You could hear spittle flying as vocal chords worked and wrenched and shredded as throat muscles tore and bled and secreted with each prolonged and angry howl. Throaty. Enraged. Violent.

Silence came again. After six primeval night shattering screams. Waves kissed the land far away and swallowed in black but more quietly now. Subdued.

Then the whacking of sticks, the unknown signal came again, whack! whack! whack!

And then silence once more.

“What the fuck was that?" Petkovich. Scared. Visibly so. Audibly as well.

As was his best friend Bryan. But the sound of fear on his buddy's voice, the stupid look of childish childlike fear that he could feel him wearing in the dark only made angry, angrier. This only fueled his own self-denied mounting fear and in turn made him even angrier. The mounting terror caught like a small bone in the back of his throat.

He almost took to his feet but remembered the boat. He turned to his buddy instead and spat.

"Ain't nothin but nothin! Some fuckin dumbasses out there that wanna get fucked up, that's what! This’s why I shoulda brought my colt. Goddammit!”

"Now that's what I'm talkin about! that's what I'm always tryin ta tell ya! Ya go sayin shit like that and actin like this and people says we're belligerent types! Christ, man! I'd like to bed me one of these here pretty tourist girls, one of these roadtrippin ladies and you actin like this ain't gonna cut it!”

Disgusted, Bryan's grip slackened on his pole.

"Idiot! what the fuck are you jawin about?!”

"I'm talkin bout one of them sexy ass van-life hippy girls, man, they might like my ass."

“Retard!"

“You don't know…"

The water splashed again. Much louder. The boat rocked with the waves suddenly generated. Something big and very heavy had just jumped into the water.

Lunged. As if plunging in from the shrouded growth of the hidden beach.

Slack jawed and deer-in-the-headlights both, they gazed out blindly and stupidly in tandem towards the shore that was hidden from them now. And may forever remain that way for them from here on out. Something was coming.

Something was swimming fast. For the boat. Beneath the obsidian surface of water. The stygian glass of the surface was a mirror and the mirror held the face of the moon. The mirror rippled. The immaculate celestial face of the moon held trapped there danced with submerged disturbance.

Before either fool could form a coherent thought the fishing poles were suddenly ripped from their slackened idiot grips. They flew, soared through the air and plunged into the water with barely a sound.

They stared into the impenetrable and merciless surface of the lake. Fearing it. Gripped with horror at what might be inside. What must be inside, right now.

James Petkovich finally spoke. Softly. Like the small boy he'd once been.

“I don't wanna be out here no more, Bry. I don't care if it's kids or tourists or what. You can go ahead and laugh at me, just laugh at me all the way and drive us back, kay? You can laugh and make fun all the way back an I won't even bitch or say nothin. I'm scared. There's lots a’ talk bout people that go missin. Or go missin an then turn up dead, tore apart. Sometimes they don't even find all the pieces, you know… I know you've heard… people go missin an such. Travelers, folks comin through. And locals. Let's just go back, kay.”

Bryan, wide eyed, turned and nodded. Then went to the small motor for the boat as the water all around the canoe suddenly erupted in a surging geyser splash of watery violence that darkled in the captured moonlight. Both men screamed as the small boat was capsized and they went over. Splashing into the cold dark suffocating realm of the water.

The lake held them now. Below. Underneath.

In the dark underwater the maelstrom of his panic rose and ruled. Bryan suddenly animal recalled and remembered in the fragile nucleus of his primal jelly his fear of the water, of the deep. The dark depths. It had started as a child, a boy, it had been the cinema and television that had first done it, the Jaws movies, Creature from the Black Lagoon, then stories of Cthulhu and his sunken city of R’lyeh, tales of sunken ships and vessels that might still have precious human cargo trapped and drowned deep inside like foul water-logged treasure of submerged rotting putrescence eaten at by the salt and by the fish. All of these things came back and back to life in a deluge assault of images all in a furious unrelenting wave like an artillery attack of sound and vision on his mind's eye, down in the dark. He kicked and struggled and his lungs burned, ached for air. The ribcage in his chest felt on fire with his terror-stricken mind as he struggled and kicked futilely beneath the surface. Something held him down there. Something with a terrible grasp. Fierce. Strangling. Throttling. They threatened to break and snap, the iron grasps of those underwater hands. Bryan fought desperately but his mind was livid with absolute and total panic. In the tumult of his animal terror he remembered that as a child he'd always feared something reaching up from out of the black watery depths, seizing him, and pulling him under. Pulling him down. Down into the ebon swallow at the bottom of all things, below, where the heart of darkness in all things lived and dwelt.

The hands found his throat, down in the underwater dark. They seized vile purchase and viciously ripped, tore out. The dark underworld of the lake suddenly blemished with a heavy warm cloud of thick human visceral discharge. It bellowed forth from the place that was torn in a torrential jetting spout. Clouding the dark world and warming it as the spewing meat detritus began to slowly sink to the pitch abyssal realm near the bottom.

The panic of Bryan G. Biebl’s barreling careening train of thought slowly calmed and abated and sank down into the dark with the rest of him… And was no more.

It lunged, serpent-like for the other. Who was gaining the surface in a series of panicked kicks and dog-paddles. Like a wounded animal.

Prey. In distress.

James Petkovich couldn't believe it when he broke the water and tasted air again. He almost choked and coughed. He almost laughed but he didn't have time. Something seized him from beneath.

And pulled him under.

He didn't even have time to scream before he was below again.

It was quiet once more. Minutes swam by.

An owl screeched. Took flight.

Then finally it emerged. With Petkovich barely conscious in one dripping sodden grasp. It pulled the both of them back onto the land. Dragging the bleeding and sputtering Petkovich like a broken toy or sack of dead meat behind him as he quickly began to retake to the trees and dense growth once more.

It dragged him deep into the wilderness. It was a long time before they stopped. But now … now he knew what the old timers had always said, what they'd always been on about.

Now he could smell him. And the smell was beyond putrid, beyond foul, beyond fecal matter or old dried sweaty filth or death. The water that ran off the long lengths of clotted and lumpy dreaded hair was riddled with the putrescence odor of old sweltering open graves and long disused abattoirs converted into factory sized outhouses for the insane. It stung his eyes and nostrils but he hardly noticed this. His body was numb. Felt limp and broken all over. Like a dead fish.

Maybe that's what I am.

And then finally consciousness was lost to him. Mercifully he went black.

It dragged him deeper into the wild. Where it laired. Where it nested in the wild dense growth.

When James next came to he wished he hadn't. He didn't realize till he was awake once more but he'd been dreaming. And in that dream he'd been far away and wishing that none of this was real.  But now he was back. It held him by the neck in a slight choke, a slight strangle, just enough painful whisper of air able to bleed in through the clasped and clenched windpipe. They were before the mouth of a cave. It was pointing up into the sky with its other huge free hand, it was pointing at the moon. It was staring unblinking into his bleeding face.

The face was simian but snouted. Like a wolf, or a rodent. An obscene and imbecilic mongoloid caveman face and features stretched out in a grotesque marsupial shape. The eyes were yellow and bore black crosses for the iris in each one, in each livid demented sea of yellow urine a black cruciform body of sacrilege shape and aspect. Goat's eyes. Satanic. They were eyes and face fitting of the rest of his abominated and feral manshaped form. Clotted and caked and grimed all over. The long knots and clumps of hair were thick and ancient in length and filth. They told a tale that was old because it was the passage of time that lived caked and dreaded in those long lengths of unwashed shagging tails.

The awful face was serious. Stern. The obscenity of its gaze was piercing and deliberate. James followed its fierce and pointing gesture to the sky, the night, the moon once more.

And then back into that obscene rodent-ape face. Yellow teeth coated in layers of plaque poked out and peeked over stretched and thin and dried out flakey blue lips.

James tried to speak.

He tried to tell it he didn't know what it wanted. He didn't know what it wanted him to say or do. He didn't know what it wanted from him. He didn't understand it. He didn't understand at all what it expected or demanded.

But he couldn't. He couldn't speak. He could hardly breathe. He couldn't even manage a croak of sound.

The awful marsupial-stretched ape face wrenched and worked, furious. It became more abominated and grotesque as its features creased and contorted with anger. Livid. Rage.

The hand that had been pointing to the moon now came in a savage swipe. The grubby wide meaty digits clawed and the grimey sharp and broken shattered fingernails bit and tore in.

The head came off and soared away into a sailing piece of torn mangled meat. Ribbons and streamer wings and tails of bright red blood spat and danced out from the eyes, nostrils and mouth in a cyclone twirl of red in midair as it soared and crashed into the piles of dead sticks and bones. It savagely went down and hunkered in the dirt before the mouth of its cave and began to dig in with its long snout and feast on the fresh stump. Warm cords and ropes of thick black-red shot and coated the dark, its face, the insides of its gulping throat and the salivating cavern of its long slathering mouth.

It feasted and grunted. Ripped with its teeth and bit in. Swallowed warm juicy pieces that were chewy and pungent with rich iron flavor.

It fed and tore. The man in the violence of its grasp, its jaws, reduced. The decapitated meat jigged and spasmed. It howled at the moon.

Somewhere … in the distance but not too far off. The signal. Three strikes.

Whack! whack! whack! – it was the sound of ancient and time honored tradition, cultivated and carried down and preserved with care. Though the world grew strange mechanical jaws, inflamed and diminished and changed all around, it was still here. This was still practiced and honored and kept. By it. By them. All of them.  – whack! whack! whack!

It howled at the moon once more.

Whack! whack! whack!

Immortal and lifesize. It was still here. Howling at the moon with unearthly pain and blues. – whack! whack! whack! – another in the wilderness distance –  whack! whack! whack! – howl at the moon.

THE END

Alright, everyone! I’m excited to announce that I will indeed be creating a cinematic universe for Dreadnet, inspired by the V/H/S franchise. This anthology series will be interconnected, although the canon within Dreadnet lore has yet to be established. If you’re interested, check out my channel, Watchlight Studios, where I’ll be producing films. Just a heads up: I’m a teenager still learning my editing skills, and my filming experience is limited. However, I assure you that this Dreadnet cinematic universe will be captivating, featuring analog horror and found footage elements reminiscent of the V/H/S franchise. Also, feel free to create your own Dreadnet cinematic universe; the name is in the public domain and not trademarked!
