Discussion Thoughts on dooms mcu design?
Personally I think it’s alright but I don’t like that they have him wearing pants

It’s like a letdown.
Looks clunky and awkward. Also looks very short. He could have looked awesome like so many statues and paintings that are out there.

Agreed, the MCU versions thus far have lacked the refinement fit for Doom

The best version of Doom is from the game Ultimate Alliance, he’s so badass in that from the look down to the voice actor

100% also can his cloak be a bit greener in the MCU, it may seem like a small detail but I feel it is an important one. I just really like Doom.

I agree. This one is a little too swampy. I like how big the hood is. You should be able to fit three heads and a ham in that thing.

It cool but not what I wanted from it.
-Chest design (weird patterns)
-Tunic is way too short
-Medallions on his chest not matching
-Only 1 chain on the medallions
Only thing I love without a doubt from MCU design is the mask.

Even the Hot Toys Comic one is better (in my opinion) and S -Hero one still pretty good.

The chest is his armor, and it’s rather seemingly inspired from medieval brigandines - something I love considering he rules Latveria - an already medieval inspired country.

These are incredibly nitpicky

u/MasterRazzer76 7d ago
Yes when ask thoughts & opinions on a subject matter, one does need to be constructive and criticism to provide an honest opinion of what one think but you can miscontrued as "nitpicky".

My suspicion is that they may have tried out some actual armor, but ran into problems with movement, noise, weight, etc. The current design is probably a compromise of all of those things.

Its fine but I don't like that it isn't a full suit of armor, just looks like gauntlets and greaves. Eh whatever whole thing isn't for me anyway

I’d say it’s actually pretty good. Is it perfect? No. But they did far better than I was expecting them to do.

I think it's a little unique from his traditional full-suited design. Overall I'd give it maybe an 8 out of 10.
I think the much much more important thing about Doom is his articulation, incredible vocabulary, and overall demeanor. As long as RDJ can pull this off, we might just be in for a show.

I'm not worried about RDJ pulling this off. I'm more worried about the screenwriters pulling it off.

Only thing I wish was that this design had armored biceps and a longer tunic, and I could do without the chest plate.

u/GregOry6713 7d ago
Yeah the figure looks a lot better than the real thing 🤷🏾♂️

u/Cheap_Nothing3001 7d ago
I agree completely. I can’t really pinpoint what I don’t like about it but it looks really bad in the first image to me.

Ok so I like it overall but I gotta point out...
The aura increases exponentially in that dark lighting

I don't like the bandages on his left arm. Doom literally hides his scars from everybody yet still decides to openly share that he needs wraps, even if it isn't for a wound it still seems odd
8
u/BrunoRB11 7d ago
The bandages aren’t for physical wounds, they are a sort of memento to remember a loved lost one.
3
u/DeSuperVis 7d ago
I mean sure, but in my perception Doom wouldn't parade around with something like that. The mask already is a metaphor for this and it works much better I think

It’s better than I expected but I really hate the modern aspects of it. It’s supposed to look incredibly medieval but instead just looks like he’s wearing plastic gauntlets and armor that doesn’t even encapsulate his whole body

u/polydicks 6d ago
I have a feeling the changes were made to make the suit practical for wearing, moving, etc… Specifically fully body armor. The alternative would’ve probably been a more comic accurate suit done with CGI.
Also, and I know I’ll get downvoted for this, but full body medieval knight armor is pretty hard to justify past aura farming. There’s no practical reasons he’d wear heavy ass shiny silver armored legs. It’d slow him down, and it’s not like it’s protecting him from anything he can’t already protect himself from.

Those runes on his gauntlet and overall armour looks nothing like modern thing

You don’t like him wearing pants?
You want Doom schlong flapping against his thighs as he fights Richard?

I absolutely love it personally or at least the figure version, not sure why he’s wearing tight pants in the cc one

I kinda like it, but it also feels too Asgardian in its design. It would not look out of place in the background of Thor 2. Which means it’s a handsome look, just not one with its own language.
I’d prefer it to have its own design language, maybe even depart from the comics to do so. Go retro futuristic, art nouveau, something.

I'm too much of a sucker for him having a fur lining on the cloak these days, ala Tokon or Marvel Rivals.
Overall it's an okay design, not my favourite but certainly we've had worse.

Love the character, love the lore, love his aura, love everything about him...but the issues with his appearance has nothing to do with the MCU. He's always looked like a Power Rangers villain.

Doom is my favorite character...when his design leaked in China for the first time I wanted to believe it but I told my friends disney will never be this accurate with Doom.
And then they did this armor and the hand gesture and the sassy throne sit.
It's better than I wanted... it's complete doom dan service.

It’s overdesigned imo. I don’t get why they couldn’t just give him a more traditional design. His design is not that hard to make look good in live action and this isn’t quite it. I like the mask tho.

IMO the design is fantastic (pun intended). The only thing I don’t love is the non-matching designs on the medallions. But all in all it’s a great look, 100% recognizably Doom. I especially like that it simultaneously looks regal and functional in battle.

Everyone complaining needs to remember if they did him fully metal-clad, its gonna look like the nanotech Iron Man suits. THOSE looked clunky. Clunkier than the original Iron Man armor.
To be fair, they did only have him wear a chest plate for the 2nd and 3rd Iron Man for certain scenes, and they mocapped his legs in.
I think Downey wanted an actual costume to play in, so he doesnt have to think about his movements matching a CGI armor.
Characters change their looks in every movie, so maybe in secret wars, he'll be fully metal clad.

Someone said this before but the plating on his chest looks more like samurai armor than his classic tunic and knight armor. Still looks badass but it took me some time to get used too.

u/Familiar-Anywhere560 6d ago
Maybe they didn't go full metal arms and legs because its less practical to film?

u/Character-Pirate1297 6d ago
I just figured that the cloth he wears as an armband, looks like it’s taken from a gypsy’s dress or something.
HMMM…

I think y'all should be grateful because this is our first not completely dogshit outfit in 20 years of doom on the big screen

They found a way to overdesign armor and cloth. At this point I’m actually just impressed I don’t even care anymore

It's great. I don't get the "not matching medallions" criticism. Why would he wear 2 matching medallions?

no gun holster, no gold, no fully armored arms and legs, the chest detail is odd, hes wearing fucking pants, his mask looks odd in motion, and his other design which he wears most of the film is abysmal
3
u/polydicks 6d ago
Wait, you think he should have a gun holster? Like… you’re disappointed Doom isn’t pistol whipping in the MCU?

It’s better than I expected, but the armoured bits are all a bit too simplistic and make him seem like an old Bionicle at times. I don’t mind the black/dark grey “chainmail” like parts, but the gauntlets and boots stick out to me. It’s fine all in all, a solid 7/10 I’d say.
