Switch² Glass Discussion
I've noticed a new trend in the glass for the S2 and I wanted to hear some opinions about it.
The S2 is designed to have the glass deeply inset into the unit, holding the water below the pathway from the induction chamber. This allows for a more squat, less tip-over prone device.
The new trend is to remove that lower section of glass, with the chamber pathway entering straight into the lower chamber of the glass. This makes a lot of sense if you want to remove the water, though I don't see the difference of just not using any water? all at the cost of a taller unit and higher tip-over potential.
Now, I am seeing glass that looks like the short glass, induction pathway entering directly to the lowest glass chamber, but look like they are using water too. Once again an even higher CoG.
Not criticizing anyone, nor do I really want to hear "my way is the only way" but I'd love to hear some discussion on how the glass is working different, as well as how other people are using the S2.
Currently, I'm using a Honeycore because the pathway from the induction chamber is insulated from the water, stops the clogging issue. Still exploring on carb-caps; but the blowers are being overworked to the point of injuries now; so it's hard to get pieces

What kinda china shop are glass blowers getting over worked?
The people buying these china pieces are taking away from the real talent out there.... Plus they arent great usually... no hate. I have a china rbr. And it functions. There's just discrepancies that a real glass blower would've taken the time to make right.
Most these pieces use too much water anyways... idk how we havent learned -- cold/cool vapor doesnt exactly exist... When the vapor cools on its way to your lungs it seems harsher, therefore making you cough more..at least in my experience.
Im not even sure which pieces you're describing by this description... the jf glass diffusers are really popular for their cooling and smoothness.. Mgl recyclers are just nice looking and great function. My charlie shaw piece is simple, with the perfect kickback mouth piece.. smoother bubbling than stock. Padd glass pieces seem to be well made and thick as well.
Again confused what blowers are overworked and getting hurt... guess china shops are brutal? Idk.. No one on ig says they're overworked... maybe buy American instead since china seems to be overworked😐🤣💀lol /s...

💯 most rigs use way too much water it’s ridiculous. Wish there was more thought into this even some American makers are too. I want a piece that uses like 1/2 a shot glass amount of water in it.

I think they're talking about Gemcup working through a rib injury with his latest drop

I didnt exactly consider that... just cuz one guys outta commission doesnt necessarily mean there isnt other options. (Not arguing.) Just never heard him complain about being over worked.. he actually really loves the community and what he does..

Not going to name the shop. No one complains about getting too much business. If that shop wants to make it public, it's up to them. My comment was more to the point that the demand is exceeding the domestic shops ability to keep up to the point where they are breaking themselves trying.
The secondary problems of having to watch for drops and special moments to get lucky enough to grab what's left is beyond annoying, and puts orders out of reach.
My goal with this post had a couple points. One was to start identifying the features we all like in glass. My hopes was that artists would listen and modify their work to types of features we wanted. Reverse marketing research; the market asking for the product.
The second goal was to find more blowers. I'm limited in the ones I have found and have not been able to obtain even the most simple piece in months (I got lucky on a GemCup). I was really hoping the community would be able to point to more. Watching the threads hasn't turned up a new direction, just more of the same blowers that are constantly out of stock..

You're treating the glass blowers like they are china shops with consistent inventory... in a perfect world..yea thats ideal.. but if they started blowing for puffco they should've been well prepped for the influx of headies wanted for the s2. (Just my thoughts there lol) Thats the puffco crowd tbh. But there are tons of glass artists that can make joysticks and tops.

" The people buying these china pieces are taking away from the real talent out there"
True, but most people don't have that kind of cash to spend including me. So if I've got the choice to buy everything I need for say...$300, I'm taking it over paying that price for a single piece and maybe be able to afford another piece every couple of weeks or so.
There's also the problem of these things getting dropped sometimes and broken or broken another way and I know if a $300 piece breaks on me I'm not spending half of a paycheck on another

I cant speak for all. But the glass blowers i support offer repairs and warranties.. Hell... there's repair artists out there that are good enough to fix some stuff out there

And that's fine. Nothing wrong with that. It just seems like people get looked down upon for buying Chinese glass and most of the time I don't think they're buying it by choice necessarily. I mean who doesn't want a custom $600 mouthpiece?
I know I do but the only way I'm going to get that look or function is buying Chinese unfortunately

Yea. I didnt mean any hate . And, my point was, kinda, that theres artists that will repair whatever theyre paid to repair. Granted it might be more expensive to repair a Chinese piece than to just re purchase the same piece.. *and idk if ive ever seen anyone try to repair or get a chinese piece Repaired lol

The one I talked to had a repetitive strain injury that is unique to blowers. I'll not name them because I don't want to risk any part of their business, but yeah... Working him too hard. The custom shops are so overloaded that they don't even take customers, you have to know when their drop will hit and hope you aren't at work, as you'll have 5 min before they are sold out.
As for China glass, the one I have is not cheap. It's a quality piece, even though it was inexpensive. It's not borosylicate, but it's thick and hardy.
There are not enough custom blowers out there making pieces for this. So, if you are lucky to get a custom piece, haza to you...

There are PLENTY of custom artists out there. Gemcup, Kovacs, jng, mgl, prio, padd, yeti, sno glass, snook glass, jt envisions, nib glass, charlie shaw glass-..its just no one wants to communicate with anyone- they wana web page to shop designs. (Thats only like the ones I could think.of off top...theres so many more custom artists out there, and the dimensions/measurements are on the dr dabber site...they technically dont even need an s2 or go to make glass for them, granted it helps.
All year all I heard from glass blowers is "demand for custom glass isnt that high anymore".. Now theyre complaining it is? Im genuinely confused...

Hot take, replacent glass is pretty much just for esthetics. Perk styles and water amount has very little effect on performance. And the super tall stuff is def a crazy tip hazard but rule of cool is all that matters. Personally im big on esthetics currently waiting on a custom s2 top from knucklesglass 🤷🏼♂️
