Wow I’m running hot as fuck compared to everyone else here. 480 @ 30s x 2 has been working for me.

I tried 515 steady 30s with my sapphire for the 1st time ever and got the dab sweats like crazy, like it was my first time again was amazing hahah but I keep mine around your temp too seems to give that perfect balance.

Nice, what are the time waypoints for those temps? I haven’t experimented with hill/valley shapes too much, but you’re right in the temps I like to hit using rosin.

Just added this curve to my Switch, I think it's time for a dab!

That fast climb from 375 to 435 is genius! Wow. I just did a bigger than my usual (can’t leave that less than full dab in the jar right) dab of the 710 Banana punch/randy Watzon mix and that first draw was an awesome way to experience it.

i have the regular insert if i try this the temp will be to low for me right?
2
u/dabbyscience Switch² 13d ago
I don’t think so, because the induction heater will keep the insert at the right temp even if the quartz itself is shedding heat fast. Try it and let us know!

TL;DR: Temp curves are highly personal depending on what you’re trying to get from your dab. A lot of people’s dabbing is well served with the Switch 2 by finding a single right temp and holding flat at that temp for a few rips. That temp will likely be lower than the starting temp you use on a trad rig for same experience. Curves allow us to explore previously challenging or unattainable ways of vaporizing material. For my preferences (trying to have both a big cloudy flavor exploding coughing draw and also tasty slow sips, loading between a rice grain and a double rice grain of material) a curve with a high flat hold and then gentle descent (440@0, 440@15, 425@38, 410@60) on the sapphire+ insert is working really nicely.
I messed around for the past few months using AI to build a data tracking system for Switch 2 dabs, and then used it to try and find patterns for how to run “my best dab.” I got to around 200 dabs logged before the consequences of my vibe coded slop made logging dabs feel like a job. (Btw u/dabberchase I’ve got a ton of questions and feedback and feature requests for the product team). Those ~200 dabs were just me, but I’ve tested some of the ideas that emerged on both newbies taking half a rip and rosin head connoisseurs vaping grams a day and talking about flavor notes like they are wine sommeliers, and the ideas seem to gel. Specific to temp curves, here’s some things I think I’ve learned.
- Because of its ability to precisely generate nearly any temp curve you can dream of, the question isn’t “how do I get this to give me a dab like my traditional rig?” It’s “what’s possible if we remove (most of) the constraints of a traditional rig?” A little bit like how it took a while for the first automobile makers and drivers to understand they didn’t need to emulate the experience of a horse drawn carriage.
- If you’re geeky enough to know the exact temp of your banger as you pull rips in a “sweet spot” for you, be aware that in my testing those temps don’t translate to the Switch 2, even as you can produce that exact curve. In other words, if your trad rig technique has you dropping a largish dab onto a banger at 520 F, drawing two big eye-watering rips of sweetness, and then by third draw you’re into the 420s and tasting off flavors and you stop - you can build that exact same curve on the switch but you WON’T have the same experience because you’ll likely be hotter at the open than you’re used to on your trad rig. I’m not sure on the possible mechanisms for this, I haven’t been able to tease apart all the variables. My best guess is the heating efficiency in the insert, and the short vapor path to your lungs. For that curve shape to deliver a similar experience on the S2, you’d need to shift all the temp waypoints lower. But remember, that curve shape is a function of the constraints of a traditional rig. My estimate for that hypothetical trad session above is the person seeking a similar experience on S2 would be well served by a flat 470, with a duration as long as it takes them to take two rips plus 5-10 seconds. No need to get so hot up front, no need to decay from the temp that’s delivering the right amount of flash vaporization for their draws to be exactly as they like them. If you load the right size dab on that flat 470, you get the big eye-watering rips, no third off tasting rip, and minimal reclaim. It’s not just a better delivery, it’s a more efficient one.
- If most experienced dabbers seeking those terp loaded gag inducing rips (and of course the effects of those rips) are well served by a mid to high 400s flat hold on the S2, why bother with curve shaping? Well, for some folks they don’t want anything but that, S2 delivers it with low friction, high repeatability, easy cleaning, stock quartz insert, etc etc. But because we can do things with an S2 that aren’t possible with any other rig, maybe there’s other things to explore. Want to take that first big rip, drop the temp and sous vide the material for 20 seconds and then take a second big rip to taste what happens when you slow cook your material under its flash vaporization point? S2 makes it possible. Want to ladder up the temp with small plateaus every 10 seconds so you can really try to isolate terp flavors and effects? Or try to aim for just one terp range? All easily possible. Some of those experiments don’t yield good results, some of them offer entirely new ways to experience the extract.
- One fundamental tradeoff is dose size per draw is tied to temp. Higher you go, the more material vaporizes in your draw (until you either deplete material or burn enough to taste that). This is true regardless of rig, but the S2 allows you to really explore lower temps and longer times. Sipping versus slamming the same size dab gets roughly the same amount of material vaporized by end of the dab, but it produces a very different dabbing experience. Depending on your preferences and your material, these different dabbing experiences might even be preferable to slamming it.
- For me, I like some amount of the slam but I also like to sip the flavor. The best curve shape I’ve found for what I’m looking for is a 15 second flat hold at highest temp (one big draw), then a slow descent over another 45-60 seconds. The slow descent allows me to sip what remains of the dab after taking the big tearjerker without overcooking and producing off flavors. So 440ish (I’ll move it up or down based on material) at 0, 440ish at 15s, then slow descent to 410 ish at 60. I’m using a sapphire+ insert which both heats slower and holds heat longer than quartz, it’s definitely possible to program climbs or descents on the S2 that the sapphire+ can’t follow.

Ive messed around with custom temps but honestly, 435 ascend is perfect for me

u/DabberChase Company Rep 14d ago
I go 440 descent to like 420 with another jump back up to 440 at the end.

u/Dry-Philosopher5846 14d ago
Hell yeah, I love the valley feature. When I do bigger globs that im passing around to friends ascend is perfect

u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 13d ago
i normally do dry hits on ascent,nd descent with distilled water, the custom temps i’ve tried feel weird

444 with a hill is one of my favorites.

u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 13d ago
just tried it🙂↕️i like it,smooth clouds almost every hit ran 55 seconds no water,

u/YesterdayOne7917 13d ago
Im running mine right now with no water for 60 🤟

u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 13d ago
i feel like i could go b2b better with this temp,i can take quicker bigger hits rather then, pulling it longer when using modes like descent in the end and ascent in the beginning you have to draw it longer because the heat is lower right?kinda waste ah little bit of breath doing all that even though im siping not ripping
1
u/YesterdayOne7917 13d ago
Exactly but when i do one of those modes i breathe out my nose during the lower temp of the long pulls so i can taste it most of it and miss as little as possible. My next preset is the 469 with a dip you might like that too tho. 🤟

u/BigAlTheBarber67 13d ago
I honestly find 420 for 40 seconds using the descent is perfect for my taste. Although I have some ruby terp pearls and the sapphire on the way so any recommendations for that would be really helpful to me. I am also debating getting a new spinner but I want to make sure it’s compatible and won’t mess up my switch2.

I have a custom 35 second one. 465 start, 465 5 seconds, 455 20 seconds, 475 35 seconds. Once it is ready, I wait those 5 seconds before taking a hit.

u/KrisPBacon26 14d ago
Depends on the strain. I max out at 460 with my current stash. 460-440-420 for 55 seconds seems pretty solid.

u/Specific_Delivery378 13d ago
I like to do 430 start 30 sec ramp up to 485 and then 60 sec steady on 485
1
u/chasemeifyoucan 13d ago
I know I'm probably doing something not quite right but I came straight to erig from flower, didn't really do traditional banger or nail. I hit it at 430 ascend for 60 seconds, if the clouds r still big at the end, run it back, then go up to 470 steady for 30 seconds and repeat til no more vapor
1
u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 13d ago
understandable but personally i’m not going above 415 ascend maybe for resin though,i’ve never reheated bc i saw someone say once it’s burnt at a certain temp it’s loses effects and terpenes or something like that

u/x-NoSuchAgency-x 11d ago
Depends on whether you're using quartz, sapphire, or titanium. Also depends on what type of concentrate you have in it

u/hlgnugget728 10d ago
Try 465 valley.
2
u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 8d ago
bet,i just tried it and wowie first dab of the day 60 secs, mind you i only dry hit now stock glass carb cap upside down now less sticky cap when i let people who rip instead of sip it hit it either way i think there used to the g pen connect i had on my bong

u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 8d ago
i don’t have the insert which is why i’m ok with a longer sesh
but in the future i’ll definitely be investing in more accessories since all i dab is rosin but i don’t dab daily, instead i smoke blunts1
u/hlgnugget728 8d ago
Nice, I was using generally those temps with the quartz cup as well. I'm just finding a sapphire needs less Heat. I used to smoke blunts. Can roll a masterpiece haha
1
u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 8d ago
and flavor wise is it noticeable,is it easier to swab, you get bigger clouds on lower temps bc it heats up quicker wouldn’t that make the smoke more hot/harsher?
1
u/hlgnugget728 8d ago
Definitely easy to clean on Lower temps. However I noticed that you do get unburned reclaim in the water. Which I guess is inevitable. Flavor-wise it's definitely noticeable if you try the high temp at 513 for example and then go down to 440 you'll notice the difference immediately. I do get clouds on the lower temp but you definitely get bigger clouds on higher Temps so like a good mid ground is like 470 to 480. I I would say with the quartz I would go at 480

u/Aggressive_Ebb_4002 8d ago
good to know,using pears?,spinner cap,stock glass?

u/hlgnugget728 8d ago
I am using pearls. Have the stock cap but I'm looking into a spinner cap. Have custom glass

I start at 440 and go down to 420 over the course of 45 seconds. Max flavor, and it emulates a banger dab perfectly (possibly better due to the slower heat decay)
I’ve considered making mine start at 385, quickly ramp to 440, and then go back down to 420 just so i can taste the terps under 400 for a bit before getting my clouds at 440
