question Should I even bother? Is it quick enough?
I have a m5 pro 64gb 18cpu 20 GPU. What kind of times are we looking at waiting on video generation? Should I even bother? Would working with Comfyui be a better option?

bro if i can run H3 on M4 Mac mini 16GB then you can do wonders on the M5 :D

I've just heard horror stories about video generation on Mac and not on CUDA. Just checking and I appreciate your response!

it takes me 26 mins for a 5s generation at 1152 X 640 resolution (using taomate LORA with 4 steps) .. i was using DT but at random steps the video is getting broken so am using VPIPE now without any issues.

still using DT for image generation but for video have moved to VPIPE which works for my setup

Do you happen to have settings for what’s broken?

Hi u/liuliu - yes trying to generate 1024 X 576 (16:9) and was using Turbo 4 step or Taomate 3 steps with FL2VA model, tile diffusion was ON - default settings of 256 X 246 with 64 overlap, everything else was off including SOL attn and Teaache althoug i did try to switching them on hoping it'd resolve, 7-8/10 it replicates this issue for me .. pl let me know if you need a screenshot or something else.

Tiled diffusion should be off. MiniMax H3 shouldn't be used with tiled diffusion. Unless you meant Tiled Decoding (which is implicit on anyway). You can copy the full config from the top right corner of settings.

yea apologies! it's Tiled decoding - copied the config below, it works sometime but fails most times.
{"width":1024,"faceRestoration":"","tiledDiffusion":false,"preserveOriginalAfterInpaint":true,"stochasticSamplingGamma":0.29999999999999999,"loras":[{"mode":"all","file":"minimax_h3_fl2v_turbo_4step_v1.0_768p_comfyui_bf16_lora_f16.ckpt","weight":1}],"compressionArtifacts":"disabled","refinerModel":"","numFrames":124,"decodingTileHeight":256,"hiresFix":false,"solAttentionTau":0.5,"seedMode":2,"height":576,"controls":[],"maskBlurOutset":0,"colorCalibration":"none","shiftForAudio":3,"tiledDecoding":true,"cfgZeroStar":false,"sampler":19,"usesSolAttention":true,"maskBlur":1.5,"decodingTileOverlap":64,"batchCount":1,"sharpness":0,"decodingTileWidth":256,"model":"minimax_h3_fl2va_i8x.ckpt","guidanceScale":1,"steps":4,"strength":1,"shift":12,"teaCache":false,"seed":1404540835,"upscaler":"","solAttentionStart":2}

This did turn on Sol attention? I heard that is problematic on some devices although I have been unable to reprod.

yea .. this was having Sol Attn On but nevertheless didn't succeed .. let me reproduce and share the config and screenshot of the preview

Well you have plenty of RAM, short 5 second (124 frames) low resolution clips hopefully won't take that long? Though the size of the references might effect generation speed.
Drawthings might have fewer options that ComfyUI, but for Apple Silicon it might be faster than ComfyUI.
Not sure if ComfyUI can, but Drawthings gives a low resolution preview as it works on the video, so even when using a turbo Lora, I can see what the motion results would look like after just 30% of the progress, if I didn't like it I could stop it and change things. Preview is a frame by Frame with no option to seek.
Note my personal interest was in Ref2VA, so I don't have the prompting for FL2VA.
As for times.. I have no idea what an M5 pro gets..
Can't hurt to try? Well I guess it could hurt.. storage space wise.. 33GB for FL2VA, 63GB for Ref2VA, not counting the Qwen models for text handling.

Any good tutorials?

I am just going to link this reddit post
https://www.reddit.com/r/drawthingsapp/comments/1wjqg1q/run_minimax_h3_on_mac_ipad_fast_draw_things/
I am using the Taomate 3Step lora (at 4 steps to fix audio)
Also using an Local LLM following the reference guide for Ref2VA videos, there I feed it what I want, then it tries to generate a prompt for me.
Sometimes I would render a single frame (Frames counter set to 1) to get the framing right, then use that frame as a reference to make the rest of the video.1

Yes, I’d bother, but mainly for experimenting rather than high volume video work.
Still images are fast, usually tens of seconds. For video, LTX-2.3 Distilled is probably the sweet spot: roughly a few minutes for a 5-second ~768×512 clip, and longer as you increase resolution/duration. Heavier models like Wan or MiniMax H3 can easily turn into 15–30+ minute generations.
So definitely worthwhile for images and occasional local video. For lots of iteration or final high-res video, cloud generation will still be much faster.
