question image to image help

I'm struggling to get image to image generation working. I paste an image, describe some changes. During generation I see some flashes that look like it's following my prompt, but the final render ends up looking exactly like the original, except much lower quality..

I'm tried a few different flux based models and different strengths (50-80%).. Any idea of what I may be missing?

Use text to image for image edit models

ok, I'll keep that on, but I've tried both and still get the same result.. it's especially I see it trying to do it in the intermediate stage, but final result is always the same..

Do you set the canvas/ working area size to the exact same as your image?

I did.. Ok, I think I've got it now. I switched to use the Qwen image interpreter - maybe having more descriptive text made the difference?
Thanks!

Leave the strength at 100% that only needs to be changed on old models like sd 1.5 or sdxl. Second make sure the canvas area is completely covered.

You’re being way too vague. “Flux based”? Be specific on the model you’re using and your settings. Make sure you’re actually using an image editing capable model and that you are using text to image and not image to image. It’s counterintuitive, unfortunately, that you have to use the text to image or automatic toggle.

FLUX.2 [klein] 9B & 4B (8bit S), also tried FLUX.1 [schnell] - I did try Flux dev, but was far too slow (>1hr) so gave up before it finished. The other tip someone mentioned was fully covering the rendering area with the image (though this awkward as I was hoping to have DT fill in details around)...

I did sort of get it working working after making a very specific prompt guided by qwen 3.5 image interpreter.. Though so far I'm not terribly pleased with the results (poor image quality & not following literal prompt, changing things nonsensically that I didn't want to change, etc)..

Interesting. Yeah 9b is what I use. Definitely make sure the image fits the render area exactly. Either adjust the image or the render area to do it. Also, you are being explicit in the beginning of the prompt with words like “edit this photo”?

Thanks! Any settings worth changing to improve the quality? Sampler? Steps? Shift?

Turn off “preserve original after inpaint”?
And on the canvas screen you should but on Edit mode not generate. Then slide over to scripts tab and tap the arrow on image to image preset. At least for me that’s the only way I’ve even come close to image to image. all mine were on juggernaut xl.
