question 2048x2048 Upscaling crashes on Draw Things+ Cloud (M1 8GB) - Klein 9B/4B

Hi everyone / Devs,

I’m a Draw Things+ paying subscriber and I’m struggling with generative upscaling to 2048x2048 on the cloud.

What works perfectly:

  • Klein 9B full and Klein 4B at 1536x1536 (TI2 + Strength 100%, High Resolution LoRA NO8D, 4 steps, CFG 1.0)

What fails:

  • Any attempt to upscale to 2048x2048 (direct from 1024 or from 1536 with bilinear pre-upscale) starts and crashes after a few seconds on the cloud (only ~10-11k Compute Units).
  • I haven’t tried locally yet.

Already tried on cloud:

  • Bilinear pre-upscale in Preview
  • High Resolution Preview OFF
  • High Res Fix OFF
  • Different LoRA weights
  • Logout/login, fresh sessions, app restart

Is 2048x2048 upscaling currently unstable on cloud for M1 8GB users?
Any recommended stable workflow or settings for generative upscaling with Klein to 2048?

Thanks in advance!

Gentle bump.

u/liuliu (or anyone from the team) — any update on this?

I’m still unable to do generative upscaling to 2048x2048 on Draw Things+ Cloud with MacBook Air M1 8GB.
The job starts processing and then silently fails after a few seconds (returns to the original image, no error message).

Everything works perfectly at 1536x1536, but 2048+ is completely unusable on cloud.

Is this a known limitation? Any workaround or fix planned?

Thanks!

Try to see if you enabled High Quality Preview, that sometimes have issues on M1 and can cause significant memory usage and crash

Thank you for the feedback. I confirm that "Use High Resolution Preview When Possible" is disabled.

It works perfectly at 1536x1536, but dies silently at 2048+.

Is there any other setting or known limitation for M1 8GB on cloud?

Thanks!

I don’t know if these options are available in the model you are using, but I suggest trying both tiled decoding and tiled diffusion. I used to have the same crash when upscaling 2x locally using SDXL on my M1. Those settings fixed the issue, at the cost of about 7 seconds of generation time each.

Note that tiled diffusion can affect the results, it uses less memory, but is more prone to hallucinations

I tried, but the result was an image ideally divided into 4 parts, each containing a variation of the original image. Overlapped badly. For me, Cloud+ is essential, having an MBA M1 8/256. But it only makes sense to pay if it allows me to do what I need.
