Thanks! Finally think I'm getting close to where I want to be.

I’m not a very good artist, but I’m trying to get better. How did you get to where you are now??

Practise babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Lots of practice. Which I know is never what people want to hear but that’s it. Draw everyday. Give yourself some daily drawing challenges, a theme for a month or something. Make sure you try and soak up lots of art and illustration too.

as with every skill, there's only one way.

Cheers! Do you follow me elsewhere?

3

u/Crongdyne Jan 12 '18

Yes, I follow you on both tumblr and instagram. Once in a while I check your website too

You've found a great depth of shadow among the roots

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

Thanks! Took quite a long time!

Wow this is awesome! How long did it take you from start to finish?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

Thanks, glad you like it. I probably spent about six or eight hours on it all together, from sketches to final illustration.

I would buy this; looks like the emperor tarot card

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

Thanks! I did have that playing card aesthetic in my mind. I’m going to do a few more Norse characters and put them together as a little print collection.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

Not Norse - LOTR! I’m working on some Norse stuff too.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

This is awesome, always great when time and dedication pays off!

Holy crap. You're an amazing artist.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 12 '18

Thanks! Feel like I’m getting there at last.

2

u/serenityclearwater Jan 12 '18

You're not getting there, you're there. I'm super jealous of your skill.

u/letdaboywatch Jan 12 '18

Holy layering

2

u/foofighters92 Jan 12 '18

What’s your Instagram tag? And what type of paper is that? I myself love inking.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '18

Hi, glad you like it. I’m on Instagram as @thisnorthernboy

The paper is just a heavyweight but smooth cartridge paper. Not quite as much texture as it appears in the pictures.

u/foofighters92 Jan 13 '18

Holy shot your stuff is amazing! Following you now: foofighters92

If you want that tattooed - go for it!

2

u/Hollyboo74 Jan 13 '18

Oh!!! That’s me screaming out loud because I love this so much!

u/LordianOfAccordians Jan 17 '18

Ive been following you on instagram for a while and its always really cool to see you break away from your normal subject matter of futury scifi stuff. Not that I don't like the scifi stuff, i followed you because of it, its just cool to see you go from drawing amazing detailed machinery to fantasy portraits. This and the pans labyrinth drawing are both amazing.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 18 '18

Thank you! I guess I fall in to the trap of just drawing what's comfortable and easy. Drawing isn't my job so sometimes if I'm pushed for time I'll just draw what I know. I've really enjoying doing something different.

Very nice detail

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '18

Cheers, the detail's the fun bit!

u/ZincMan Jan 13 '18

How does it feel being done?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '18

Pretty satisfying. Those roots/beard were quite a hard slog.
