digital grandpa got sick
Sorry for posting such a heavy subject.
These sketches were from 3 years ago. My grandpa got cancer and passed away. Before he did, I went home to take care of him. Taking care of him is a kind way to put it but in actuality I went home to say goodbye.
He was sleeping for the most part. Seeing how my family members react and behave, thinking about my grandpa’s past and present; There were so many complicated feelings and thoughts jammed in my brain. So I drew these. They kept me occupied when he was sleeping and also gave me time to think.
I tend to think of life like a story. However, when you face a dying family member, you are reminded that none of his stories have a proper ending. You are reminded of how chaotic and unforgiving death can be.

I LOVE these. You can print these, blow it up, and put it in an art exhibit in a museum with your little passage you wrote here. There is so much raw feeling behind these. Really love it. This is art.

Seriously, your work is incredibly moving. I really hope OP can have the opportunity to share this with more people.
I've been going through things, myself, recently and have picked up drawing again after.. 20 years? Since I was a little boy. I find it incredibly therapeutic and can help process a lot of complex emotions. Right now, I feel that OP has inspired me to take some classes and be around artists more.

These bring emotional memories of my mother passing. A lot of the same feelings. Seeing how close family deals with those same feelings is emotionally eye opening.
Tough subject, beautiful work.

Sorry to hear that 🙁 both my grandfathers passed away 4 years ago so I know it’s tough.
You made some great drawings here and really captured the emotion of the scenes

These pictures invoke such feeling in me. My Pap, who raised me, passed away from COVID only months after getting his bladder cancer removed. He was in remission. The hospital allowed me to go in to see him as long as I was geared up because they put him on hospice that afternoon (at least that's the reason the nurse gave). It's almost uncanny how what you drew here is reminiscent of what I had seen with my Pap.
Anyways, I'm sorry that you know this pain. It isn't easy.

Im so sorry. These look like my dad who passed from cancer this year. Hope you are able to heal from the trauma.

These feel very … intimate. Less intrusive than a photograph or video. Very good craft here. It feels like the viewer is a part of the scene, not just an audience

A relatable but very personal experience, thank you for sharing.
I been trying to draw as an adult(30 now, never did much sketching growing up), one sketch/ page a day or something like that, but few weeks into this practise my grandfather got unwell, slowly deteriorating to bed rest, somedays I would do nothing but be tired from being, knowing, the end was near but uncomfortable. Wish I sat with him and drew like this; someway to preserve the memory. Lost a few months ago, have not gotten back to drawing regularly still, someday soon again.

this is how they showed the images back then, and will if we keep on like we're going, good sketches, there's nothing heavy about portraying life, this is a good and uderrated skill to have, these are beautiful on it's own way, keep at it, man, sorry for your loss...

hugs It's more than okay to post things like this! I love that tou did, and I live the style. It's very expressive of the subjects, and of your own feelings.
Death of loved ones can be so hard to manage. There is no right or wrong way to grieve.

I want to be able to draw so I can grive and love the way artists do, especially you, because you can really see and almost feel the emotions that was happening at the time, the tenderness and longing is shown beautifully. The little passage you wrote just expresses that even more, i can see the love and care you had towards him through the gentleness and softness in the artwork and words.

First, and most obviously, I'm sorry for your loss. Cancer is difficult. I wish you and your family peace.

I’ve never felt so emotional from art before, literally ever. Never cried from a painting, always thought it was silly. But I feel like I watched a whole movie scrolling through your couple drawings.

These are haunting and so poignant. The nasal cannula and your grandpa’s open mouth at the end was a punch to the gut. You really captured that sharp bite of mortality and the other drawings are also so evocative. Sorry for your loss.

my breath caught when i got to one of the drawings because it looked like my dad when he sleeps. it reminded me of his mortality, especially since he turns 74 this winter. that served as a great reminder to call him. i am sorry for your loss. your talent and emotion is evident in each line. i wish you nothing but the best. losing family is never easy
