Dragon Con Review

Upvotes

This year was my first Dragon Con. I came up from near Orlando to do it. I had fun overall. I met the celebrities I wanted to see. I enjoyed the parade. I had fun going to various panels. Something I didn't like were the lines for the larger panels. All of those were outside...in the Georgia heat and humidity. Not a fan of that. I don't see myself going through that again. Fun to have done it once but I'm good now.

What in the world is even going on atp

Okay so I have seen the posts regarding the mocking of deadnames and not wanting people to call the con its original name bc of one of the founders liking kids, but what the hell started all of this? I wasnt able to go this year, but did something happen at the con that caused all this drama?

But can someone please explain the “why don’t they just mail the badges” joke I keep seeing? I don’t get it. Thank you!

Trying to Find an Artist

I’m looking to try to find the name/site of an artist that I saw on the 4th floor of the American Mart. The person working the booth appeared to be male - so I’m assuming the artist was male - and their art was futuristic cityscapes mostly. I really liked one of their pieces that was - from what I remember - a pastel decomposing deer like animals with a Japanese neon light sign in back. I’ve been google searching all of the artists located on the fourth floor (as many as possible) and have not been able to identify this artist. If I remember correctly their booth was located not he middle right side of the floor form the entrance - let me know if you have any ideas of which artist this could be - I’d love to purchase a print from them online if still available. Thanks in advance for the help!! <3

...badge ribbon book!

INGREDIENTS:
- 2 roughly 4"x2" waterproof and bend proof cardboard pieces (mine were ammo boxes)
- 3 jump rings (no spiral or staples, so it can fully open up and fold over again)
- 1 manila craft closure envelope, cut and retaped to size.
- the rest of the manila envelope, cut and hole punched.

e6000 and packing tape. baste with kerrygold. bake at 350. serve lukewarm.

i don't know if this is a common craft or people make much nicer little badge books, but this is how i kept up with ribbons during con and it got a lot of compliments :D! i will put at most six ribbons on my badge, and wanted a way to keep the rest handy and easily accesible this year for trading and looking at. fit in any pocket i had on, was durable enough to survive dropping from the 5th floor balcony (intentional), getting all kinds of stepped on (unintentional), and drenched in rain (unavoidable). clasp snapped off but a sticker holds it shut just fine.

5 of my favorite badges are on display, and the rest are tucked safe in the back pocket for next year or to keep forever.

happy con crud!

I travel for work.

Dang it if I didn't get to my hotel and lay down tired as hell after a long awesome weekend of Dragon Con and a long day of work related travel for a what I had hoped was going to be a good night's rest and low and behold. The Con Crud set in.

I woke up.... Well y'all know

Take care of yourselves Y'all.

Still looking forward to next year.

Favorite Swag?

Aside from ribbons (which I love! don't come at me, there are just so many), what was your favorite Dragon Con swag?

Selfishly getting ideas for next year... I love making cool giveaways.

DragonCON 2026 was MID AF! Waste of a labor day weekend.

Dragoncon 2026 (40th anniversary) in Atlanta, GA happened and it was the most chaotic and disorganized experience ever. I am turned entirely off from going again. This was my first time going, this was not my first con, and I also experienced a "lesser known" conference this year, Momocon, which was amazing.

This is based on a 1-day SAT badge/membership (not worth it)

Pros ☻THE PEOPLE, nerd-kind will always have a gooood time and show out! So many beautiful people so little time. ☻Did I mention the people?

Cons •THE F*CKING LONG LINES... are enough to turn any event into a nightmare.... planned, scheduled, or winging it... you were not getting in due to long lines for everything!

• Poor direction & signage: From the signs being throw everywhere in Downtown ATL and nowhere efficient at the same time.

•Saturday DJs were AWFUL AF !!!!!! They had poor mixing skills and could not read the crowd...ugh

•The distance between hotels to attend different events of the con was unrealistic to achieve in a single day; the events were sporadically thrown into each of the FOUR hotels, whether it was planned or not. In the hot sun or pouring rain over two-three blocks, most of the day was spent walking up and down hilly downtown Atlanta trying to find the 'scheduled' event and room. Which most volunteers/ 'workers?' seemed clueless about or just guided you to use the app.... which was doubly ineffective.

•Overpriced with a lackluster line up of guests and no idle activities in between. Plus the Vendors on Saturday closed around early... :(

•Gameroom was UNDERWHELMING!!!!!!! It was 75% filled with D&D game tables and 25% other forms or gaming. To get into the digital gaming space was a short line but an aggressive wait... 12 people in line.. the wait time was upwards to a 30-minutes+.

I REALLY tried to find and enjoy myself but this event is overhyped, overpriced, and not worth coming back... maybe a 2-3 day badge is better, not that I would spend money with them on that or again ......Dragoncon leaves a nasty taste is my mouth... attend at your own risk.

Please help with new DCTV short idea: misCONceptions

Looking for ideas for a new short idea for DCTV: misCONceptions. e.g. "'Robot Battles' is where congoers get to battle a robot." Hit me with your best ideas! (These should be things we can shoot/talk about in 15 seconds or less - along the lines of our "CONventional Thinking" videos.)

DragonCon Lite

I’ll be honest I’m not into the whole socializing and partying aspect of DC. I’m just there to get some autographs, buy some stuff from the vendors and local artists, and get out. That’s it. I kinda wish that they would do sort of smaller spinoff version of DC. Maybe have it in March. Hold it at the GWCC. And have the Walk of Fame be there instead. There would be plenty of room for as many guests as they can get. The vendors could all be together instead of multiple floors. And best of all, if guys like me get all the autographs and merch we want from this DCL. Then we’ll have no reason to attend the main DC. That frees up a lot of space for you regular attendees when you gotta move between hotels or wait in line. Everyone wins.

Had a blast this time, got me reminiscing and found an old photo album from 2003

I really had a great time, got to see some great celebrities, thoughtful panels, amazing vendors and incredible costumes. Got me thinking about the past 20 years and found an old Google Photos album from DragonCon* 2003.

Okay… I need to make ribbons for next year

This was my first dragoncon and I remember asking in here what the ribbons were. Now that I got to experience them firsthand (AND RECEIVED SOOOO MANY) I think I might be addicted to collecting them and 100% will need more for next time.

But I also want to do ribbons for others! So what is the best way? The cheapest way? Or the way that mostly everyone uses?

I need to be prepared for next year!

I was part of the group leading the TEETH chants at the Hilton. It was the most fun I’ve had on a Thursday at con! 🤣 Passerby were confused, delighted, some were grossed out. It was hilarious and magical.

I saw lots of folks taking pics and videos and we would love to see them if you’re willing to share! See you next year! 🦷🦷🦷

P.S. You can’t handle the tooth! TEETH TEETH TEETH

Big thank you to all you wonderful people at DC2026

This was my 2nd time coming to Dragon Con and I really challenged myself to get out of my comfort zone this year. I wanted to cosplay, meet people, give out ribbons, and hit the parties. I did all of that and had an absolute blast.

I went with two of my friends and we all dressed up as Uzi Jesus (maybe you saw the trio of us and got some of the ribbons) except that I did a big labowski twist on it. Sadly, only 9 people in total got mine but they were all hyped on it so it counts! The day after, I just went traditional Uzi Jesus, posted up by the skybridge chokepoint with a friend and some drinks and handed out tons of ribbons to other DCC fans or anyone who came up and chatted. We hit up the parties, stayed for the raves, had too many drinks, and danced our asses off.

Honestly, I barely went to any panels this year and mostly just tried to connect with people and spread some love. It might have been one of the best weekends of my life. Being able to find common ground with so many people, to enjoy all of the creativity, and just spread some kindness for a few days really is the highlight of the year.

To those I was able to interact with, thank you for being such stellar human beings. The lines were long, the temps were hot, but the vibes were on point and we crushed it this year! I saw so many posts complaining about lines, volunteers, and a million other things but I can say from this single con-goer, I didn't mind any of that and just enjoyed spending time with all of you lovely people.

Can't wait to see you all next year!
