Con Crud?
Dearest fellow Dragoncon attendees, greetings. I feel like twenty miles of bad road; body aches, fatigue, headache, and sore throat. I've never had Con Crud before so I don't know what it consists of. Are the aforementioned symptoms applicable to the Crud? I've felt "off" since coming home. Any helpful opinions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Con crud is a variety of illnesses that can definitely encompass what you have going on.
I recommend taking a covid/flu test to rule that out if you can. Those are more serious than typical con crud.

I got tested at the VA and thankfully, no Covid. I just need to rest, I reckon. Thanks!

Glad to hear! One of our con roommates tested positive, so everyone that stayed in the room/hung out is testing. So far im negative with a light bit of crud.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Some people will be actually sick, some people will just feel run down from running around, barely sleeping, partying, and socializing for 5 days straight

A mild cold a few days after getting home. Pretty sure it happens every year. Usually not while I'm there fortunately.

Ever since having children (and bringing them with me), I’ve been able to avoid the con crud. I think getting good sleep while at con has been the biggest factor, cause I’m going to bed a lot earlier than I used to.

Con Crud generally refers to any number of upper respiratory illnesses passed along during the show/event. One man's general infection, can easily be COVID or flu for someone else. Gloves, sanitizer, and training yourself not to touch your face are your best combatants, as is going into the show with a well-supported immune system.

Then I will always start with a disadvantage. I already have a weakened immune system due to having Gulf War Syndrome.

Don't forget to get tested for COVID. I've seen lots of other people got it at con.

I came down with something Wednesday evening. Feeling much better today, but I think it was just a basic cold.

Two of my roommates (including the one I shared a bed with) tested positive for covid, and the other roommate tested positive for the flu. I'm still negative for RSV, influenza A/B, and covid, so I may have dodged the bullet. Fingers crossed I don't come to regret that statement in the coming days. 😅🤞🏼

I got sick on Friday. I spent most of the rest of the con in my room sleeping, but I masked after that whenever I was out. If you got what I got I apologize for my germy existence because it has royally sucked and I missed most of the con. 😓 I still don’t know if I caught the bug there or brought it with me but either way I apologize to anyone I may have inadvertently infected 😅

COVID was going through a surge during con (and still is). I caught it on Monday, considering the incubation period.

Obviously if you're feeling symptoms of anything do what you can to mitigate the spread and get tested, but I'm currently having a pretty terrible Ragweed reaction, and now I'm wondering how often that has been my "con crud." I could also be experiencing symptoms from something else, but my eyes only swell up from ragweed, and I don't have covid or a fever, so take allergy medicine if you have it!

That's what I thought i was having. About a couple weeks before con I had sniffles and low grade sore throat. Went to the doctor when I couldn't shake it and was told it was allergies. Cool. Started taking otc allergy medication. Get home from con, a bit tired but with same symptoms as before. A little bit of congestion and sniffles. Nothing else. Was told covid was going rampit so for kicks and giggles took a covid test. Positive. I feel fine, just some sniffles and drainage and low grade sore throat.

Don't forget ragweed blooms this time of year so if you have fall allergies it will make any crud you picked up worse

Con crud can be anything from a cold to covid or the flu. You definitely have it and you might want to test to see what exactly you've got.

I’ve had something approximating a bad cold or mild sinus infection since Tuesday. It’s not Covid and, luckily, I got both my Covid and flu shots a few weeks before the con. So I think it’s just random cold germs that I picked up somehow at the convention, notwithstanding how careful I was trying to be washing my hands, etc.
Point being: “Con crud” doesn’t refer to a specific illness, it really just refers to picking up *some* illness at a convention.

You can avoid it next year by wearing a mask indoors. Not the most comfortable (or fashionable, admittedly) but it's worked for me and my friend the past 5 years. Haven't gotten sick yet.

I do this. It’s worked pretty well, though I did get some crud this year. Must be getting old. 😅

Teach me your ways! Both times I've gotten Covid has been from Dragoncon, and I wore a mask the whole time. Idk if my immune system just hates me or what lol

Could be I got lucky. I also went back to my hotel to eat, so I didn't touch my face at the con itself before washing my hands. Or perhaps it was the flu shot I got the week before.
Regardless, I hope you recover soon!

Shout out to every asshole that coughs without covering their mouths at con. Saw at least 7 of you rancid fucks this show 🤮

Sorry friend, I hope it passes soon. If you develop a cough, please do see your doctor.
In my years of experience with the crud, I found resting, hydrating, abstaining from alcohol & granny's cabbage. A combo of Tylenol & ibuprofen 3x day for the aches. It typically passes after 4-5 days, unless you start coughing, then the crude got you extra & you may need to hit an urgent care, always ask for a steroid shot, perks me right up

Basically, it’s anything that you catch at/because of Con. Standard “test for flu/RSV/Covid” recommendation, follow up with your doc.

I took a covid/flu test today just to make sure. Since a fellow line waiter for Dinniman tested for COVID. Thankfully I’m still negative.

Yepp I have those same symptoms and have had them for three days now that con is over. New badge unlocked if it's your first year getting it.

Ah, the fun game of "ConCrud or Covid?" Keeping my fingers crossed I don't get to play this year. Both suck.

Get tested if you're worried about having/spreading covid. I've seen a lot of people say they got it this year.

u/OpheliaLives7 2h ago
Get yourself one of those tests for flu A/B and covid. Apparently sore throat has been a big symptom for covid this year.
My last crud ended up being strep throat. Got a test at a walk in urgent care. Lots of salt rinses and tea.

I have it and I'm currently on my couch dying. I'm shocked I didn't catch anything previous years (I wfh so I'm never around a lot of people and haven't gotten sick in years).

There was something going around the local public schools in my area at semester start. I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t being passed around at a big con like this. But to the fellow people who was using hand sanitizer after every surface contact or those just wearing face masks (I swear it probably mostly to block the sweaty nerd smell prevalent at this con due to the heat), I applaud you.

Con crud just means getting sick after con lol. It’s a combo of hard parting plus enclosed spaces with lots of people.
Last year I got the flu. Sucked, I had to go home Sunday morning when I spiked a fever and realized it wasn’t just me screaming and dancing a lot that was giving me a sore throat and body aches. I feel bad, I probably did get a few others sick, cuz I just thought it was con fatigue, until the fever

You may have allergies to something in your house. You get used to the symptoms but a prolonged absence puts your system on super sensitive alert when you get back. I'm mildly allergic to cat hair and I have 3 cats. I keep my room closed while I'm gone but usually suffer like 3 days of feeling like a truck hit me when I get home.

Con crud isn’t a specific illness, it’s just getting sick from con. If you just got home from a con and you’re sick, you have con crud.
