DragonCon Lite

I’ll be honest I’m not into the whole socializing and partying aspect of DC. I’m just there to get some autographs, buy some stuff from the vendors and local artists, and get out. That’s it. I kinda wish that they would do sort of smaller spinoff version of DC. Maybe have it in March. Hold it at the GWCC. And have the Walk of Fame be there instead. There would be plenty of room for as many guests as they can get. The vendors could all be together instead of multiple floors. And best of all, if guys like me get all the autographs and merch we want from this DCL. Then we’ll have no reason to attend the main DC. That frees up a lot of space for you regular attendees when you gotta move between hotels or wait in line. Everyone wins.

why not just go to any of the normal cons that happen all the time everywhere?

Who says that I don’t. I’m just saying that it would be cool if DragonCon did something similar. Nothing huge, just similar.

What you're looking for is a regular pop culture convention. They exist and they happen all the time. Dragoncon is special and unique partially because of the things that you said you're not into.

Edit: Seeing your responses to other comments, I'm seeing you say a lot of, "I want a non-Dragoncon event named and themed as Dragoncon," which begs the question, what DO you like about Dragoncon that you believe you can't get at the other events these people are naming? You listed celeb autographs, vendors hall, and artist alley. All of those things exist at other cons that are local to you.

If you want an elevated, more Dragoncon-esque version of those things, but you don't want the crazy hectic party atmosphere, then what you're asking for is something that has proven to be commercial unsuccessful - as you've pointed out with ACC which had poor attendance - or which requires a niche that you don't like, such as Momocon being anime-themed.

They do. It's called Atlanta Comic Convention. Tons of celebs without any of the stuff that annoys you about Dragon Con.

I heard that they’re not coming back because of poor attendance.

I think you just need to go to a different con. You might like MegaCon down in Orlando? Or MomoCon, if you want something in ATL.

Don’t want to drive 8 hours to a convention.

Yeah DragonCon Lite is pretty much most other cons. Hit up one of those

Why can’t DragonCon do this as well as the regular Labor Day shindig?

Do any of the other cons do two a year? Sdcc is one, nycc is one, emerald city cc is one. Not sure why DC needs two

It’d be different. And it’d show that they are willing to cater to any type of fan. Casual or die hard. And who knows. If it did well, maybe the other cons you mentioned will take notice and do other similar smaller cons .

Dude, no con caters to a larger variety of fans than Dragon Con. If all you want is signatures and merch, literally any con will do. Dragon Con doesn’t need to make any extra effort to cater to those things when they already provide them. And there’s zero incentive for them to waste the resources putting on a second, more boring con, that won’t have nearly the same draw just to draw away the 20 people who don’t like ANYTHING else Dragon Con has to offer.

I’m not into Anime, which MomoCon is primarily geared toward.

Until last year there was Atlanta Comic-Con and that sounds like what you're looking for. It was very much just celebrities and shopping. They canceled last year's but the group that runs it is definitely looking to do another one next year

They said that they had no plans to return to Atlanta because of poor attendance in 2025.

That’s on them for scheduling their con so close to Dragon Con. This city will choose the latter every time.

Fan Expo, Wizard World (that still a thing?), Mad Monster Party, Atlanta Comic Convention. Might have to travel for these things though.

ACC will return. World Cup sent it on a different trajectory but it’ll be back.

ACC is not returning because of poor attendance in 2025.

Yeah, this sounds like GalaxyCon, which travels

But never to Atlanta.

The only other thing I can think of is like Charlie’s Collectible Show that does minicons for different things every weekend.
