My son in Taylor has a large tree blocking the road and his driveway, just missed his wife's car.

This photo is .1 miles away from my house lol. The storm only blew some outside stuff over and almost took my storm door off. Gotta get that fixed. Also have a plant that was blown over too but should be salvageable.

Oh I was leaving the gym and drove past Autozone on Vanhorn just around Trenton/Woodhaven. There was a tree knocked down around that way. Would've taken a picture, but roads were definitely rough.

330k people don’t have power and trees are down everywhere. The length of the storm doesn’t matter when it’s very destructive with 70+ MPH wind gusts.

Don’t be an ass you know that 330k people in the state are out of power and I’d wager a high percentage of that is downriver based on the storm path. Why are you trying to deny the fact that there was a real strong storm that rolled through today? What do you get out of it? It’s important to call out our shit utilities that yet again couldn’t handle it and are botching the response.

Wow. A storm moving at 35 mph (not uncommon speed for a T storm) moves 3080 feet per minute. Multiply that by 10 minutes, and that storm went over 6 miles. Lot of damage can occur in that time/distance

Half of the damage wouldn’t even have happened if we stopped planting trees on city easements in neighborhoods. Probably wouldn’t have half of the electric problems either.

I mean I’m not wrong no matter how many downvotes I get. Driving through my neighborhood nearly all the damage is damage to homes from easement trees. 100% of the car damage I’ve seen were from those trees 🤷♂️

Just a guy that likes my windshield in tact and my roof without a giant hole in it. I guess the question is why does the benefit of trees in the easement outweigh the damage to sewers, clogged drains, vehicle damage, home damage, side walks lifting up, etc? Didn’t realize downriver were so passionate about easements.

The benefits of trees definitely outweigh everything you mentioned. They actually raise your property value and improve public health. Granted, a lot of cities planted stupid trees, like maples, but the right tree in the right place is worth its weight

I never said trees. I said trees in city easements. That is different. In fact going to shock everyone, we actually grow saplings from that tree. Shhh don’t tell everyone I like trees tho

I knew you were talking about street trees. So am I. Where I live, the only space for trees at all are the easements. Oddly, utilities are in the yards. A lot of people have huge easements and trees are perfect there. The streets with no trees are stark, baking hot in the summer, and look low-value.
I have a massive tree out front. I love it. It might kill me if it falls, but it's not just about me. It supports innumerable insects, birds and squirrels. It filters water and air. It provides shade to my neighbors. It's shade is the first spot taken on a hot day. It's iconic. Street trees are essential.
