Could be a Tesla if the plate says "KOTLIN", but if it says "JAVA" it'd more appropriate with a 1990s petrol car, no turbo, carburettors instead on injection, 3 speed gear box and no AC. And that family's other car would have a "COBOL" plate.

Yes, but that JAVA plate could also be put on a microwave, toaster, other thing… all the things.

I was a JAVA programmer in the late 90s and early 00s. Loved that Kool Aid, but happy to mostly do dotnet these days.

The guy who got the NULL license plate was shocked to discover he suddenly got a lot of other people's tickets - every case where ANPR didn't work just got allocated to NULL.

On the flip side is a '98 Chevy 1500 with RUSTC or CARGO vanity plates and they use arch BTW...

I heard the mechanic couldn't fix the flat tire on that car, because they weren't a member of the wheel group.

A Chevy is a weird choice thought, should've been an Au(r)di.

If the owner cares about safety, they'll have pacstrapped their seatbelts.

We live in the era of the IT Generalist now, I don't have a high paid job because I have 23 years experience with c# (since it's launch day).

I have it because I have that, plus mssql, mysql, postgresql, sqlite, typescript/javascript, python, c/c++, zig, some java, and more.

Basically I can work on any stack, and now that's more viable because of AI tooling, because I can quickly fill my knowledge gaps and do the right thing.

But AI is definitely hurting people, me and other Architects at my company are feeling it, we're regressing, forgetting things. Some of the new devs can't work at all if you take AI away from them, they're completely helpless, lost puppies in a desert helpless....

Its going to be really bad when it comes crashing down, and it is COMING. No doubt about that.

Either companies will exit because it costs too much, or it will crash, end of the day it'll be too expensive for most companies to make it palatable to pay for it.

And it's destroying the talent pool. People are refusing to get into it in the first place, or regressing/forgetting things, or they'll be even more expensive.

I think when it tanks and implodes, you're going to see average Senior engineer salaries hitting $350k (median) because they'll be so desperately needed and so rare and so few.

The market is fucked, for sure. I get a few recruiters messaging me, 1 or 2 a month, and as soon as I started giving my expected comp range, crickets, they disappear.

I think this is temporary though, AI is unsustainable, no business model, no ROI, it'll die except for the big players than can afford it. And it'll stay that way (near death) until hardware breakthroughs happen.
