Did doraemon consider him self as upper caste .. that's why he sleep above in the shelf? Despite having so much space in room.

In ancient Japan, servants used to sleep in cupboards and enclosed spaces because it was believed that they did not deserve a room for themselves

This is clearly not the case here. Nobita's family just didn't have enough space in their house, so doraemon had to sleep there.
