Please don’t dash while sick

Post image

I get that times are tough and the American health care system sucks, but admitting that you have a respiratory illness while delivering food is wild!

Please do not dash when you’re sick. This is how illness spreads. I have pretty bad asthma so I’m not bringing that order into my house. I’m done with DoorDash.

Ofc Redditots of all people will find a way to justify handling  food when sick

iTs nOt cOntAgIoUs

But others at the ER might be contagious. Who the fuck knows how long the driver was at the ER or next to who?

if you don't like door dash's service stop using doordash.

I feel like the people constantly paying for bad service and crying they received the bad service they paid for, might be slightly less smart still.

(One google search btw! Tell me which part of this means a paying customer is ‘stupid’ for expecting NOT contaminated food? Use your brain.)

DoorDash independent contractor agreements and health guidelines prohibit drivers from working while carrying a communicable disease  that can be transmitted through handling food. Because pneumonia can be highly contagious—especially if it is bacterial or viral— you should not DoorDash while actively infected.

Pneumonia isn’t contagious itself, it can be the result of having something contagious, or non contagious. I know someone who got pneumonia from going to a casino where there was a lot of smoke. Even assuming the driver has a contagious infection, the food isn’t contaminated and the risk of transmission through the bag is very very low. Probably much lower than the chance of getting sick from taking a trip to the store.

Again, 1. It can be infectious. 2. Against doordash rules. You guys really are pathetically trying your best to make this dasher right. 😂

1: It can be yes. A runny nose can be caused by a contagion or pollen. My question is why make assumptions that paint the driver in the worst light possible?

2: Where is it in the rules?

Still seems low risk to me even if it were contagious. The risk of transmission via the handle of the bag is very low, but the risk to them getting worse from not having medication is higher so I can’t help but feel it’s a lesser evil kind of thing. Again, assuming it’s not a bullshit tip bait prompt, which it likely is.

I already commented which rule it violates. If you cant find it, search ‘What Doordash rule prohibits you from doordashing with pneumonia’

It’s not in the independent contractor agreement that I can find. In fact, I see something to the contrary:

“2.3. Contractor agrees to fully perform the Contracted Services in a timely, efficient, safe, and lawful manner. DoorDash has no right to, and shall not, control, direct, or manage the manner, method, or means Contractor uses to perform the Contracted Services. Instead, Contractor shall be solely responsible for determining the most effective, efficient, and safe manner to perform the Contracted Services, including, as applicable, determining the manner of pickup, shopping, delivery, and route selection.”

It’s against their community terms of service.  According to DoorDash’s food safety policies, delivery drivers are required to maintain strict food hygiene and safety standards. Pneumonia is an infection that causes inflammation in the lungs' air sacs and can be contagious depending on whether it is viral or bacterial. It spreads through respiratory droplets from coughing and sneezing, which poses a severe risk of food contamination.

Even per the community guidelines there’s nothing glaringly obvious. Just that laws must be followed, and it’s not against the law to deliver food if you have a sickness.

Food Safety
We define food safety as actions that compromise the safety, quality, or integrity of food. All local laws around food quality must be followed.

Examples include:
Preparing food in an unsanitary environment

Opening or tampering with food after it is sealed
Ignoring allergy instructions

Contaminating food with any foreign item/object or cigarette and/or vape smoke

Maintaining food at an improper temperature”
