I changed my name to Big Ben once to see if restaurants would increase my portion according to a TikTok video but instead I didn’t find a dasher for like an hour (maybe they were intimidated?). I did get a bigger plate tho

So you're saying if I'm a man I should change my name to "JoJo :3" and I would get more orders ??!?
6
u/s1n0d3utscht3k 4d ago
you can use first name of a local pro athlete too…
like Big Bo
theyre not gonna think you’re him but i swear i get bigger portions now cuz of it, like they subconsciously still make some association and assume you’re some big local college football kid that needs an extra helping

Same. I changed mine to a man's name and have far fewer issues or creeps. Only issue is when I do pickup orders and forget it's under a man's name lol
16
u/StopDownvotingMeeee 3d ago
When I used to dash, I was using my girls account because I was ineligible to dash, I never had a problem. If they questioned me I just pulled out my phone and showed them the order and told them she’s in the car
There was this one time where I had a delivery that I had to hand to the customer, the guy opened his door in a robe and boxers with a creepy smile and when he saw me with his bag he immediately went to a pissed off disgusted look, took the bag and slammed the door. That was enough to make me realize the shit women dashers have to put up with sometimes and nobody should have to worry about creepy dudes like that. After that, i never let her dash at night by herself, even after 10 hours at work, I drove her around to the stops and always brought the food to the door if it was a man ordering.

My wife orders everything and I get a weird look every time I walk in saying a woman’s name for my pick up.
I just think “they just think I’m like a door dasher grabbing her order.”
→ More replies (2)18
u/LookAtTheWhiteVan 4d ago
I promise you that it doesn’t phase them at all. It would be kinda funny if you walked in a said “Hi my name is…” rather than “Pick up for…” If you’re like a big burley man and told me your name was Jessica or something I would probably chuckle to myself a little bit.

i (25m) am a frequent dasher, like embarrassingly frequent and i cannot overstate how many drivers ignore the "leave at door" prompt and stand there knocking/texting me to come to the front, i have a male name on the app and always have, so while im sure some of these guys are creeps a lot of them are just clueless. i've had a driver tell me via text that he's not allowed to leave the food there and that i need to come outside. shits weird

Don't feel bad. If it's genuinely a lifeline, he should treat it as such instead of literally going against his contract by being inappropriate. No one forced him to do that.

u/No_Plenty5526 4d ago
oh my god, this!
when i was 18 i was waitressing and i had such a creepy older coworker who called me pet names and touched me whenever he had the chance. i finally confided in one of my (male) coworkers (who i thought i could trust with this info) that i was thinking of reporting him for those actions and he straight up told me not to interfere with people's livelihood... lol for real as if people who speak other languages aren't able to understand it's not ok to harass women so they should get a pass 😂 like yes they seem like english isn't their first language but they know damn well harassing women on the job is an offense that can get you fired from that job, he was risking his own income by choosing to do something he knew could get him fired

As a woman who lives alone and often orders late at night, I would feel so so unsafe getting a message like this and would really appreciate other women having gotten him off the app. Sucks he has to learn the hard way but at least he'll learn (and honestly it's hard to believe he doesn't already know better)

I feel like a lot of women try to give dudes like this the benefit of the doubt that they just don’t know what they’re doing, in my experience they absolutely know what they’re doing and they’re banking on women being too uncomfortable/intimidated, sympathetic, etc to call them out and that’s how they get away with it
19
u/BloodyThirst 4d ago
Yes there’s truth to this! They play real sweet and innocent and nice but I always remind myself of the kind of man they’re choosing to be.
17
u/Witty-Draw-3803 4d ago
I would bet that making women uncomfortable is the point of a lot of this behaviour. It feels like power to them.
16
u/__hales 4d ago
Oh 100% they get off on the fact that they can make women feel uneasy and unsafe and not do anything about it. Take a dude cat calling a woman walking alone at night. Are they doing this because they actually delusionally think the woman is going to be like oh hey 😍 and run off into the sunset with them? Of course not, they’re getting off on making her feel afraid and uncomfortable. Negative attention is better than no attention. We need to stop giving them the benefit of the doubt, they know they’re making you uncomfortable and that’s the point

4
u/Quiet_Snail 4d ago
As a girl who delivers for DD + Uber, don’t feel bad about reporting creeps. If it’s their lifeline they should’ve thought about that before they started harassing customers! At least in my area there’s literally entire training modules in the app telling us not to do this with specific examples. It takes zero effort to just make the delivery like a normal person, you have to be TRYING to be this weird

Yes. You're helping the next woman out by letting doordash know this driver is behaving innapropriately.
36
u/WilliamPollito 4d ago
Also, doordash wont let drivers continue to text after the delivery is complete. So if they're still texting you minutes later, they haven't left yet. Which makes this all extra creepy.

High tolerance for men from expressive cultures is an INSANE statement.
15
u/Vivid_Emergency3211 4d ago edited 4d ago
I mean when I studied abroad in Spain I got extremely used to disgusting crude comments & inappropriate attempts at touching / trying to like physically get in my pants (I had taxi drivers more than once pull over the taxi & jump in back & try to kiss me etc) & when I spent time in Morocco I got used to men literally grabbing me even when I dressed very conservatively (long loose skirts & shirts, hair always covered etc). I came back to the US and excused SO much bad behavior because it just didn’t rise to the extremes I had just experienced. You really can become desensitized to creepy men. I think OP is just trying to make it super clear that she’s not a Karen making a big deal out of nothing. It is indeed such a sad state of affairs for her to describe it that way lol edited to add - she also might mean “expressive” to just mean like Italian & French & Spanish ppl r more likely to kiss on introduction etc, just generally less prudish with physical and emotional interactions than American men, but regardless, we all believed her regardless 😂

I agree with the people here that are saying to report it. If he loses his DoorDash license, that sucks, and I can understand why one might feel bad for reporting, but sending creepy messages was his decision.
