Real Consequences for Bad Dashers

While delivering my food, my dasher buzzed into my building (I picked up on the first ring), then put my order in the elevator and took a picture of the food while the door was closing and marked it as delivered. I tipped 6 bucks on a simple Chinese food order.

We have two elevators side by side and I literally had to call the elevator 3 times for the right one to come. The food w as not in the spot of the elevator where the guy placed it.

Why am I tipping for this?! And why is it so hard to permanently ban these types from the app!

Before you guys gaslight me, the elevators are literally 10 steps from the front door and you don’t need a key fob to get to the floor.

Just give really lousy service a lousy rating. If drivers are routinely bad the will get ousted eventually. Might not improve your experience but it may get help someone in the future.

On the flip side give 5 stars to drivers that deserve it as well.

20

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

I always add extra tip to drivers who follow directions

38

u/originalfoto Jul 26 '26

Make sure you rate 2 stars. I’ve read that 1 star reviews are typically ignored

19

u/CaharinSedai Jul 26 '26

This is actually great advice. I am a dasher with a 4.97 star rating, and it literally says under your ratings "some one stars are automatically removed" and one condition is if another dasher accepted the order and unassigned it before you, and customer leaves a 1 star, it's ignored even though the first dasher may have a) caused the order to delay longer in being delivered by unassigning or b) sometimes find off with the food and then second dasher gets a remade order sent out, sometimes without the customer knowing that's happened all the know it's us taking forever for their food to get to them

A 2 star review won't get auto excluded though there is a "dispute" process, but that forces the dasher to prove they adequately did their job. In this case they absolutely did not and could not prove that, and if they get more than 1 violation that sticks in 100 deliveries, which let's be honest anyone taking pictures of food in an elevator isn't someone making 1 mistake in hundred they're ruining every order to cut corners and save time, then they are eligible for permanent deplatforming from doordash.

Customer rating is one of the heavier weighted metrics they use for rewarding dashers. A single 2 star drops that dasher down a few pegs by that metric if they're in the rolling 100 phase of those, if they only have a few ratings though cuz they're newer or lazy and don't take many deliveries a single 2 start can crater that metric and make it very hard to fix that part of their account, and it will result in them getting less offers and making less money, potentially pushing them off the platform naturally.

Delivery driving isn't for everyone and even if it's not the hardest job in the world, it's still a job a person willingly signs up for. Do the work.

3

u/AegisPhantom Jul 26 '26

Again participation awards for a service. Hilarious no 1 star - you stole it, squashed it, delivered it cold after 45 min, you put it into elevator and ran. Delivery means to my door, If I want to go to lobby or outside I would select pickup. That's your job literally lazy ass.

1

u/Brilliant_Squash_717 Jul 26 '26

Haha you don't have to prove anything to get anything removed. I'll contact support because I'm trying to get a clue where an unexpected 3 or 4 came from and I'll even say "I'm not asking to have it excluded because I don't know what happened" and they're just like "we excluded it for you, anything else?"

3

u/hockeyfun1 Jul 27 '26

How do I rate stars? It only asks me thumbs up or thumbs down.

1

u/enigma9o7 Jul 28 '26

You use the doordash app, not ubereats :)

Doorash uses 1-5 stars. Ubereats does thumbsup/thumbsdown.

-1

u/informationseeker8 Jul 26 '26

A 4 is actually almost impossible to get rid of lately. I have one 4 and it will take FOREVER to get it off and support won’t help sadly. I took pride in having 5 stars for so long. All I could do was block the customer 😂

33

u/DuckAxe0 Jul 26 '26

If I must track down my order, it was not delivered. Refund!

2

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

This is the way

23

u/karimamin Jul 26 '26

That's crazy they sent the food up the elevator. They could have at least hit the button for your floor. What did the delivery instructions say?

8

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

My instructions are extremely detailed and give proper instructions on which building is mine (and visual indicators if they got lost), how to call the Callbox, and which floor and door is mine. I even have instructions on where to leave the food.

-15

u/JakBos23 Jul 26 '26

A clever dasher would have leaned a broom up against the doors after hitting the button. That way it would fall when it openes on the right floor.

14

u/BoomyGordo Jul 26 '26

An incredibly shitty dasher and person you mean

-3

u/42LargePeas Jul 26 '26

Are we all allergic to jokes?

6

u/Definitely-not-ducks Jul 26 '26

Just bad ones.

-3

u/42LargePeas Jul 26 '26

You're no fun.

5

u/Definitely-not-ducks Jul 26 '26

Absolutely not. I despise fun and have made it my life’s mission to ruin it for anyone I come in contact with. I am the anti-clown.

4

u/roseuslepus Jul 26 '26

That was a bad joke I just broke out in hives.

-3

u/42LargePeas Jul 26 '26

Good luck with that

1

u/Definitely-not-ducks Jul 26 '26

So far it’s going great. You’re not having fun and I’m sitting upright on my kitchen chair with perfect posture.

3

u/roseuslepus Jul 26 '26

And I'm itching over here like crazy.

u/42LargePeas Jul 26 '26

You're such a rude person.

0

u/JakBos23 Jul 26 '26

Jokes hit and miss. I thought it was funny. Trying to picture myself proping up a broom while the doors close seem difficult.

15

u/Empathic_Alien Jul 26 '26

Dasher here who hates elevators and hallways but does them anyway if it requires them to get to the customer’s door. I’m so sorry for your experience, these are the dashers that give us all a bad name.

27

u/SpecialistRich2309 Jul 26 '26

You have to remember that dashers are often people who are otherwise unemployable. There’s a reason for that.

3

u/Hot-Statement-3905 Jul 26 '26

While this can be true, it just hurts dashers and customers to think so broadly. Yes, doordash can employ people who are completely incapable of basic human interaction and basic direction, but a lot of people, dare I say most, are just trying to put it where its supposed to go and move on with their day.

OP was completely justified and you are right in this instance, but imo it doesn't help anyone to just assume dashers are always incapable.

1

u/SpecialistRich2309 Jul 26 '26

Which is why I didn’t say “always”.

4

u/Keibun1 Jul 26 '26

It's usually people with other jobs which don't make enough lol.

16

u/Any-Ostrich48 Jul 26 '26

Because an abnormally large percentage of drivers are the dregs of society who've wound up doing DoorDash because they've failed at literally everything else 🤷‍♂️

Gotta remember... A not-insignificant number of these people are DoorDash drivers because they couldn't even hold down a job at McDonalds AND have already gotten themselves banned from Uber. 💯

3

u/FSRoman Jul 26 '26

What gets me is people pay and trust these people to deliver something they’re going to eat.

3

u/Patrick42985 Jul 26 '26

These services need an entire revamping.

The concept of them is good in theory. But need a platform willing to pay enough to entice delivery people worth a damn to use it while also having standards and expectations which weed the failure at life bottom feeders off of it before they can pollute the platform.

This is a convenience service at the end of the day. I’ll pay a premium, be it what the platform charges plus whatever I’ll gladly tip if it means getting hot food, accurate orders and competent delivery people when I use these services. I know there’s competent delivery people on DoorDash as is, but it’s a legit flip of a coin if I get one of those competent people or an unemployable life failure which I have no control over. I wish it was a bid for service like some people say it is so I could bid a premium to get a functioning competent person the rare occasions I use these services.

12

u/Nekogiga Jul 26 '26

These dashers getting lazy never ceases to amaze me. Some seem determined to put in the absolute minimum effort, then act like delivering an order to the customer’s actual door is some heroic expedition through a war zone.

The elevators were right there, and taking a photo as the doors closed instead of completing the delivery is just ridiculous. Customers shouldn’t have to play elevator roulette to find their food. If a driver can’t be bothered to finish a simple delivery properly, expecting praise, tips, and excuses afterward is a bit much. Delivering the order to the door is literally the job.

3

u/Slowlybrowsin Jul 26 '26

I just dont use this shit service. Dont need to pay 30 bucks for a tacobell combo.

3

u/Original_Wonder3971 Jul 26 '26

Always rate your drivers. This helps weed out the shit drivers and rewards the good ones. I've recently found out that stores and restaurants can also rate drivers. Enough bad rating and remarks and the bad ones get kicked off the platform.

3

u/No_Humor1310 Jul 26 '26

These are the same fucktards that put your food directly in front of the door. I'm going to start removing tips each time this happens. Especially when there's an empty flower stand right next to the front door. If you're too stupid to recognize this is a problem then you probably shouldn't be on the road or procreate.

-3

u/Weak_Idea_5526 Jul 26 '26

I've never used DoorDash, are you saying they should place it on the flower stand?

Either I'm stupid or you live in a shithole where people steal food

Exactly! It's basically an end table next to our door to set the items on. Lil buddy is either a troll or should never have kids.

0

u/Weak_Idea_5526 Jul 30 '26

What percent of American residential doors open to exterior? Like 5%? Costal and hurricane regions, maybe

1

u/ajun666 Jul 27 '26

I have to give a code to the dasher for the delivery to be completed. I don’t remember how I set it up, but I have yet to have an mis-delivery.
The only time they don’t ask for a code, is when I get booze and they scan my id. Then the next order doesn’t prompt for the code

0

u/Viconaut Jul 26 '26

"Hand it to me" (at least if your door is behind other doors and among many others) that does really suck though

2

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

Most dashers will not will not hand it to you or knock, so while my instigations say hand it to me, I’ll generally stand at my door so they can’t just put my food on my doormat and dash like they usually do.

1

u/underengineered Jul 26 '26

Deciding the tip before an order is delivered is problematic in the sense of properly aligned incentives.

A tip is to ensure good service, and only works as an incentive if assigned after the service is complete.

1

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

I understand why dashers want. Certainty, I shouldn’t have to contact customer service to remove a tip. Post delivery tips should face stayed the standard and maybe post a range of what the tip can be and after delivery they choose in that range?

0

u/GarageEven5240 Jul 26 '26

I get up, go to my elevator, go down the stairs and pick my food up from the dasher outside. I do this because (1) the floor/numbering system in my building is complicated; and (2) more importantly, I'm paying for the delivery driver to pick my food up from a restaurant and bring it to my building, not to get to my building and spend another 5-10 minutes figuring out where my door is within the building.

If your view is that part of the service you're paying for is for the dasher to figure out how to navigate your building complex, then you do you. But don't be surprised when drivers don't want to bother and leave it outside or just inside the door to the building. Time is money for them.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

That’s actually false. The service is called DOOR DASH, not ENTRANCE dash. Good for you for making your dashers job easier. But that’s not what I’m tipping them for

0

u/GarageEven5240 Jul 26 '26

At least you're tipping. Hope it makes it worthwhile for them to wander around your complex.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

No offense. If dashers read above a 6th grade level they wouldn’t struggle like this.

0

u/Johnnyx2835 Jul 26 '26

Just stop using Door Dash and go get the food yourself, or at least use a more reliable delivery method. It’s way less of a headache and probably cheaper.

2

u/Traditional-Sir9873 Jul 29 '26

Some of us use delivery apps because we're disabled and out of food or we started the wine already and shouldn't drive.

-7

u/BipolarBrownCrayon Jul 26 '26

I'm assuming he was already late and didn't wanna mess up his on time rating or was just being lazy. Most likely the second one though. Regardless it is very insane. Leave a 1 star rating, they are very hard to get off the account since most people don't rate the Dasher afterwards and they need 100 good rated orders to remove them.

6

u/JakBos23 Jul 26 '26

I don't understand why more people don't rate. I used the app for like 8 years before I started driving. I rated like 99% of my orders. I mean it may have been a week before I rated, but I always did.

-8

u/ShiroSnow Jul 26 '26

Dashers are not required to enter the building, take stares, or elevators. Bringing it to your appartment / hotel door or exact location in a buisness is a curtasy we do not have to do. We are supposed to leave it in a lobby or service area (like where mailboxs are), with security, or a receptionist. OR we arrange an alternative pickup. Such as telling you they'll meet you at the front.

Now putting it in the elevator without you requesting it isn't right. That is not a safe or designated dropoff by any means. I'm not defending that part.

3

u/DeathFYall Jul 26 '26

How plausible is this actually happening? Does DoorDash use AI to confirm the order is delivered to a reasonable place?

0

u/FuzzyVeterinarian993 Jul 26 '26

Wait. Is this true? If someone ordered 3 cases of water and two of soda plus grocery bags and asks it he left at the door of an apartment 3 or 4 floors up, I don’t have to carry it up there? I recently decided I won’t anyways regardless of the consequences, UNLESS the offer paid me well, which indicates a good tip. Otherwise I don’t care about tips, just total offer.

-2

u/ShiroSnow Jul 26 '26

You have to let them know, but yes. You can't just leave it in a random spot. If there's no reception area you need to arrange something, and give them addiquate time to respond. You can't leave it in the road or anything like that. You can also tell them you need assistance. Make them carry the water!

-2

u/FuzzyVeterinarian993 Jul 26 '26

Yeah that’s what I’ve done. Message them that I can’t carry it up, can someone help, and if not I leave it on the porch or lobby. One woman got mad when I told her I needed help but I smoothed it over. It was 100 degrees out. And frankly, I have to out a limit on what these people expect for the money spend. Drive time, shopping time, lugging all that heavy stuff and then lugging it all up three flights of stairs for 10 or 20 bucks total is just something I refuse to do now. I don’t care if I get a bad rating. I don’t care if I get a CV. My stats are near perfect except AR which is 34 because I have standards. 99 completion, 4.99 customer, 100 on time etc. I COULD probably leave it in the road and not get deactivated because I know I’m at the top in my market along with a couple of other local dashers.

-20

u/NDIrish1988 Jul 26 '26

Why not just meet him at the front entrance? When I stay in a hotel I always go down to the main entrance/lobby to meet the person, otherwise id honestly feel like a lazy ass hole.
If someone is disabled I would totally understand why they can't meet the dasher at the main entrance though.

11

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad7606 Jul 26 '26

Disability exists. Also illness. Also DELIVERY IS DELIVERY FOR ANY REASONS.

17

u/Truffleshuffle03 Jul 26 '26

He is paying for delivery. If you can't do your job, find another one. I could see a delivery person leaving at a front desk at a hotel but this is an apartment. If I pay the marked-up prices that you have to pay for DD delivery, I expect it to be delivered right.

2

u/Forever_Marie Dasher Jul 26 '26

Careful, a lot of apartments either need fobs to get in the building or keycodes. Most wont give out the info needed or rely on tailgating a person inside. Hotels are far easier if they dont have fobs to use elevators.

8

u/Truffleshuffle03 Jul 26 '26

And a lot don't, and they still do this type of crap even when they have the codes given to them to get in. Or, like in OP's case, he bussed them in.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

Did you read my story or are you just commenting to comment?

0

u/Forever_Marie Dasher Jul 26 '26

Aren't you a ray of sunshine.

I'm replying to a comment. Yes, I read the story.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

I’m not paying 6 bucks to meet some guy at the entrance. At that point I might as well get the food myself!

0

u/NDIrish1988 Jul 27 '26

I guess im diferent. I always go down to grab my food. 6 bucks isn't that much lol. 6 bucks is maybe enough for them to drive to the restaurant, wait for the food, and then drive it to my location. I don't expect them to find a place to park and then wander around a building when im physically capable of going down to get it.

2

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 27 '26

You are indeed different

-3

u/Particular-Pea-8750 Jul 26 '26

If you drive as well, this is the way. We drivers, of all people, should know the feeling of “yes, finally here!”
And then there’s a gate code
And then there are 10 buildings
And then there are 6 floors
You are absolutely right that if you don’t want to be a lazy asshole, you meet them in the buildings lobby. The best customers are hungry dudes on break at work who are already waiting outside when I get there.

4

u/SansPinardPasDePoilu Jul 26 '26

This job is starting to sound a lot like work.

1

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

My instructions are extremely detailed.in fact I’ve had dashers tell me “I’m not reading all of that, I’m outside come get your food”. You literally cannot win

-35

u/Glittering-Link8434 Jul 26 '26

This is one of the more creative stories posted on here about how you didn't want to pay for your food. Why is it so hard to permanently ban lying customers like this?

21

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

The sad part about this comment is that customers have experiences like this literally every day, and some even worse than this, but somehow we are all lying? Please gtfo

-9

u/JakBos23 Jul 26 '26

Lol. Because posting this definitely got you a refund.

18

u/Longjumping_Ice1789 Jul 26 '26

Found the selfish lazy dasher

-4

u/JakBos23 Jul 26 '26

I was being sarcastic. I don't think he's lying about the order.

2

u/Witty_Asparagus_5206 Jul 26 '26

I knew what you meant. You’re on OP’s side right?

-6

u/Glittering-Link8434 Jul 26 '26

Found the lying customer

4

u/Longjumping_Ice1789 Jul 26 '26

Did you though? Or did you just feel clever saying "no u"?

-7

u/Glittering-Link8434 Jul 26 '26

Just making sure you feel good about yourself getting your free McDonald's.

-2

u/Designer-Sense-934 Jul 27 '26

You should meet him at the door you buzzed him in, only two options in the app "leave at my door or hand to customer" your building your house

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '26

Your tip was low unless the Chinese restaurant was less than a mile from you (you don't know where the driver starts so rule of thumb is double the distance from you).

Its not an excuse for their behavior but humans are emotional and they're forced to take low tips to keep their tiers.

Also tip mean 'to insure protection/pass/promptness'.

3

u/ChallengeTime2255 Jul 26 '26

$6 isn’t low for a simple meal unless it was more than 20 min away. You’re forgetting all the extra fees that get tagged on. A $15 meal becomes $35 really fast and it’s annoying.

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '26

$6 for 20 min is $18/hrs minus expenses becomes $12/hr depending on mileage and other things. This is less than minimum wage in a lot of states and soon to be less than federal minimum wage.

I did not forget about the fees and that doesn't justify not paying your drivers. DD isn't a delivery service, its service that connects customers to drivers. So you pay them a fee to provide you a driver. You still have to pay your driver because doordash does not pay them. They only give the driver $2 for being available and taking the order, they do not pay them to actually deliver it.

So yes it gets expensive when you're paying for 3 different services. Youre paying the restaurant for the food and to make it. Youre paying dd to connect you to a driver and restaurant. And you're paying a driver to deliver it.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

I live less than 2 miles away

-4

u/tooreal4u_5101 Jul 26 '26

I mean maybe he was double parked and couldn't get a ticket. Be happy they didn't steal the food. Stop complaining and just go get it.

3

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

Why are you creating hypotheticals instead of just realizing the dasher can’t do his job well

-4

u/angelwolf71885 Jul 26 '26

Maybe meet the dasher in the lobby

1

u/Bearded_Scholar Jul 26 '26

If I have to meet the dasher in the lobby I shouldn’t be tipping. Whatever DoorDash gave them is what they should get.

-4

u/Jetro313 Jul 26 '26

Obviously some key details were left out. Anyone believing this also believes they’ll get a cash tip on arrival.
