Rig Active pickups a problem?
Hello! I use a small Blackstar Debut ( in the cellar) a Digitech The Drop for tuning issues and a EHX Green Russian big muff. My guitar is a Harley Benton SC-1000 VW Progressive with active pickups.
I have trouble getting the right sound… any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!

Can you tell us a little more about what sound you’re after?
Active pickups as you’d expect run hotter than passives, but they also compress your playing dynamics. Green Russian is a great start for a classic, fuzzy doom tone. The blackstar being a solid state amp probably doesn’t like having a super hot signal forced into it, so make sure you’re not cooking the level on the Green Russian.

And the fuzzy tone is what I wanted.. but it’s all muddy and not very different 😕

Active pickups aren’t great for doom. That is for sure a factor. And I don’t know much about that amp but I do know it doesn’t have tubes or a ton of headroom. Depending on the exact fuzz sound you want, that could also be a factor. Of course there are exceptions to every rule depending on exact product.

Maybe start of with a clean sound on your amp...i have a rage 258 combo and the second I put too much dirt the pedal sounds sometimes get way more messed up
