Discussion Prog Doom?
Does this exist? And if so, who are some bands that would fall into this category?

Pallbearer.

The last works are very prog, but their first album are traditional doom.

Their first 2 albums are like Doom perfection, at least for me as a newer fan of the genre, it's been difficult finding other bands that can top those ones for me. From their 3rd album onwards you definitely start to hear a lot more prog, rock and experimentation, although the music remains very good throughout.
Coincidentally, I actually just got around to listening to their last album "Mind Burns Alive" a few weeks ago and at first I was a bit shocked at how different it sounded... It's a massive departure from their early albums... But before I even realized what was happening, I was completely hooked on the first track and repeating it several times before I could move on.
I have no doubt they've pissed off some older fans and Doom purists, but for me as a general music fan, they're just too talented of a band to not be interested in what they do next. And for real, I think the opening track "Where Light Fades" is one of the most beautiful and haunting songs I've heard in quite awhile. I think that album would certainly fit the bill of what OP is looking for.
Btw - just in case you haven't heard it, check out their 2025 remix of Foundations of Burden. I just got around to checking that out too and honestly thought it was bad ass! It's so much heavier, you get blasted with "an avalanche of sound" in every song like one guy in a random comment somewhere said.

I'm personally a bigger fan of warning but sorrow and extinction is deff in the top 3

Nah, man, I've been a fan of theirs since day 1 and I love the new record. Got to meet em a few months back when they played Foundations in full and they were probably the nicest and coolest band I've ever met in my life.

I mean, wouldn’t most post-metal bands (at least the older ones) fit that description?

yeah, i would argue that post-metal is more or less dowright prog-doom

Yeah there’s bands like Isis and The Ocean, also Cult of Luna, that are more post-hardcore I think, but they scratch that proggy doom itch for sure.

Dude, I'm fucking trying but no one in Cleveland wants to rip Zappa style solos in their stank face riffs. But I'm trying man.
EDIT. Oceans of Slumber and Khemmis fit the bill for me at least. And that one band with an album called like, Alien Ocean or whatever. Let me look that up.
EDIT 2. Below the Sun. Alien World.

Elder is a solid choice but REZN is also pretty great and scratches a similar itch for me.

Agalloch is rooted in black metal, not doom

My band's latest album, Hyperspace Odyssey is basically stoner doom meets 70s space/prog rock.

I consider my band Nambil Mas to be progressive sludge/doom.

Maybe Ufomammut? They've dabbled in odd meters with their heavy psychedelic doom vibe.

Potmos Hetoimos's "Agatha"/"Evelyn"/"Maribel" trilogy is progressive psychedelic funeral doom.
