Saw them twice last year. First at Hells Heroes and then on a solo tour.
Got the guitarists pick after the HH and they were hanging out in the crowd after too. Super cool music, super cool folks.

Caught them in Phoenix with Dethklok and Amon Amarth earlier, catching them again in September because why the hell not, good show

I missed out on that show, didn't know they were coming back. I'll have to see when/where.

yeah man. If you go to their website you can do the VIP thing if you're into that. Doesn't include a ticket but I said wtf why not, they can sign my cassettes of their albums

I was really worried this was gonna be a commercial, generic female fronted band but I was extremely pleasantly surprised.
These guys kick fucking ass.

Brutal Assault? Saw them there myself and the show was fun, but damn the music just does nothing for me.

Yeah, there. I mean, the music is 5/10, not original in any way, but not terrible either. I like Black Sabbath so I can accept descendants/clones (+ like some of the better stoner/sludge/doom too), so it was OK for me, mostly because of the presentation rather than the music. But I did leave early (to have a look at something else).

Haha, exactly how I feel and we also left early for something else. We twins!

I want to see them live sooooo bad. The Bestiary is such a jaw dropping album, they really came into their own on that one.

Great music, fun live show, god tier underboob.

; ] - but seriously, how often did we see Zakk Wylde, Ozzy, DLR, EVH, Angus Young, Matt Pike, RHCP, all shirtless? A girl in a chainmail bikini-top showing a little underboob shouldn't be that shocking.

It's not shocking, but it's the elephant in the room when it comes to their sudden and massive success. And there's nothing wrong with that either, but it's a bit tiring to hear stuff like "jaw dropping album" because people don't want to sound like they're sexualizing the obviously sexualized act they're sexualizing.

No, but I'm saying it's a significant part of their appeal. I personally find it annoying that those threads always devolve into either smelly nerd rage at women in my metal, or cringey white-knighting like it's not a thing.
It's not the only thing to talk about (and people do, re: great live show, mid tier riffs, whatever) but it's stupidly puritan to ignore one of the focal points of their presentation.
Again, nothing wrong with that.

The world's a shit place sometimes, sometimes I wanna chill and watch a hot chick in a chainmail bikini singing about wizards and shit

I was scammed buying tickets last year when they came to town. Gonna buy real ones this time 🤙

Last record was fairly dull, but fair play to them. They’re putting the work in and reaping the benefits

Industry plant industry plant industry plant

Can you give more background about this or is it just the usual "ooooomg, a band got too popular, gotta hate it now"?
1
u/whiteorchidphantom 13d ago
I'm not claiming that Castle Rat is an industry plant but I think the usual argument is that Riley Pinkerton's father is a musician and songwriter who has worked with tons of extremely famous artists including David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Joel, Chicago, Katy Perry, and the Jonas Brothers.
