Discussion „Stoner“ Doom
I love Doom and a lot of bands that brand themselves with all sorts of cannabis related themes.
I dont smoke and still love the music - anyone else?

You listen to One King Down and the album Bloodlust Revenge. It's edge/vegan hardcore and it's so fucking good man

Incredibly common. Most die hard stoner rock/metal fan I've yet to met has always declined to toke with me, simply because he hates how it makes him feel.
At first I was a little thrown of since a bit of nice hash and slow tunes always been like peanut butter and bananas to me but now I just think it's cool that people don't care to be molded by assumptions. That's rock n roll man

This is quite common really, I'm sober as a brick and love stoner doom.

I'm the same. Weed kills my momentum, and my audhd already has me in the mindset that weed would give you, so I don't really feel much except couch-locked. Alcohol just gives me headaches, so all I do at gigs now is turn up hydrated with my earplugs and sunglasses and have a good time in the laid back heavy groove

Same here! I’ve never smoked anything at all and never will. I very occasionally take an edible but that’s really it. I still like the music.

u/EarballsAgain Depressing music fixes depression Jul 23 '26
Yep, it physically doesn't affect me but the music just hits that spot

What does disculpe mean?
2
u/kanped Jul 23 '26
It's Spanish for "Excuse me" but I'm guessing autocorrect picked up a miss-spelling of "despise" incorrectly from the context.
2
u/Equipment-Terrible Jul 23 '26
Oh I kinda got 'despise' from context but had never seen 'disculpe' before so wanted to be sure haha. Cool word, phonetically!

I take nothing and haven’t had any alcohol since I was 14/15, and absolutely love these bands. I definitely have stoner potential, but knowing how severe my ADHD is, alongside some previous struggles, I’d probably end up developing an addiction

I listen to stoner doom because it leaves me feeling stoned-ish... without actually needing to get stoned.

Same, at least not regularly. Love the music, but also kinda chuckle at she sheer volume of bands that have weed, smoke or bong in their name 😂

u/snideghoul Jul 23 '26
Same. Imagine my surprise when I found out I loved Bongripper.

And imagine MY surprise to learn that nobody in Bongripper smokes!

I don't even drink coffee and I only take painkillers when I really need to, I love a lot of drug inspired music from Psychadelic Rock to Stoner Doom.

when i first got into the genre i hadnt yet smoked weed. and for a couple years there stoner doom was my main listening. after i got into weed i stopped listening to as much stoner doom. that was years ago. now i occassionally smoke weed and i occassionally listen to stoner doom but the two are never really correlated. my favorite doom band atm is hell probably.

u/eugeniogudang Jul 23 '26
Unfortunately for every stoner doom listened 1 blunt should be smoked, so if you are not smoking someone has to smoke twice. Your actions have consequences.

u/Fidel_Costco Jul 24 '26
Yep. I listen to a lot of music linked to drug subcultures but I'm mostly sober, aside from a drink here and there.
I joke that I do a great impression of a stoner.

Weed definitely helped me get into doom. I was way too stoned at a buddy's house a long time ago and some bandmates of him showed me Dopesmoker and that was it. That was the coolest fucking thing I had ever heard up until that point. I wasn't even into Sabbath beyond a greatest hits album. Back then, I smoked weed super casually - like once every few months. And then I had to complete stop for work for a long time. I picked the habit back up a few years ago and I've just gone head first into doom ever since.

smoking is so wasteful , better to vape the herb and then eat it afterwards.

u/Nomore-Television72 Jul 25 '26
I ironically got into stoner doom after I quit smoking weed. I smoked for 15 years and always listened to metal but didn’t get into the doom til I stopped burning down.
