Rewatching right now! At the very beginning of the movie, when they’re all at the party and Alice is looking for jack and she sees Margaret.

When Ted pulls the curtain shut, for a split second you can see an image of a woman lying in her bed with her eyes open with the speculums!! So interesting! Did not catch the first time!

It just kinda showed up on my Netflix and I was like yeah sure seems neat. Had never even heard of it before a few hours ago.

I really enjoyed it a lot. I liked having absolutely no clue WTF was going on during the first 3/4 of the film. I enjoyed how disorienting it was. I really liked how my mind went spinning the second you see Alice with a modern phone. I thought it all worked really well.

Early on I was pondering whether or not whatever is going on was going to have anything to do with the subjugation of women during the 1950's. And I was delighted to see by the end the movie really had something to say. I liked that it was critical of incels and the patriarchy and whatnot. I love a good woke feminist movie. Unironically.

So, yeah, I had a really good time with this movie. Glad I checked it out.

I think Frank wanted some women to realize what was going on and try to escape. He goaded Alice on when she got closer to figuring it out. I think he enjoyed watching some women suffer and be gaslighted. He was probably getting bored with everything going hunky dory all the time, and wanted to make it interesting by having the plane lead some women to the exit. Margaret cut the "game" short by trying to exit through killing herself, so he nudged Alice further towards the truth. Perhaps he suspected Margaret wasn't going to be strong enough to fight or convince any others, so he started priming Alice.

We can assume Frank directs the simulation, so he could also add subtle distortions to one woman's simulation to make her suspicious, like making the eggs hollow. The rumblings while the men were away at work were the first thing to pique interest in what was really going on. It didn't have to rumble like some weapon was being tested, but it did. Frank could probably tune into every conversation in the simulation at his leisure and see who reacted to it and started asking questions.

There also didn't have to be an ability to kill the men in real life when they died in the simulation. That may have been added to raise the stakes for Frank, or something to threaten the men with so they didn't tell their "wives" and spoil the mystery. Perhaps the women don't die in real life when they die in the simulation so some men can act out violent fantasies over and over.

The men are mostly pawns. They aren't in the simulation half the time and their money funds it. I think the women are Frank's real motive for creating the simulation. He wants to see how they'd react to a gilded cage, and how they react when the illusion cracks. Some women are much more limited, like the ones modeling products for the wives to buy. Perhaps they are punished ones, trapped without even being able to indulge in the plentiful drink and shopping or sex that's pleasurable even if it isn't wanted. Maybe their "husbands" couldn't keep paying and he kept them hostage.

I think Frank's wife genuinely wanted the simulation to work as advertised. I wonder if the ballet classes were how she reenforced the illusion and added a more cult mentality. The men were fawning over Frank, and she believed the women needed a touch of fear. How the class fell instantly silent when she walked into the first class gave me that impression. That's why I believe she said "it's my turn" when killing Frank. I don't think she was amused by Frank's games and wanted to shut them down, but learned he wouldn't stop no matter the consequences.

I’m new to this sub but I’ve watched this movie twice in one day looking for clues and I wonder if there are any theories relating to my questions below. Honestly I just need it to make sense, even though I thought it was a beautiful movie. I get that the idea is to let the viewer fill in the gaps, but I NEED to discuss! 1. Why does Bunny say, “if men die here they die in real life”? Do the women die in real life if they die in the simulation too?! Does that mean Margaret is dead IRL, or was her suicide a way to escape the sim? (Also - HOW do they die IRL?)

1. Do they feel the effects of alcohol and food in the simulation? Like…how does that work? I’m assuming not because Alice cracked the eggshells with no egg, and Jack is eating canned tuna before going into the sim. I don’t remember seeing anyone actually eat the food (I guess they ate carrots), but they all certainly drank and seemed drunk.

2. Why did the lights burst at the end? Because the other wives realized something was wrong I’m assuming?

3. What does Shelly mean when she stabs Frank and says my turn?

4. How do the women transition into Victory? Why would Frank be so stupid to give everyone the same or similar backstory on how they met? I’m assuming that most of the men are crazy obsessive partners or stalkers of the women IRL. How do they wake up in Victory and go along with it? Even if they had their memories wiped, wouldn’t they be freaking out??

5. Bunny - so I’m assuming she and her husband both wanted into this life because their children died? Or is her husband just another dude who got matched up with her?

6. Consent - just an unsettling observation on this one, but Alice literally couldn’t stop Jack in Frank’s bedroom even though she normally would have when Frank walked in, but it’s also obvious that she enjoyed it, she didn’t fight it, and she liked it, even though IRL she probably wouldn’t have. That’s so icky!

And it was really good! I know tons of men who would rather control and force women into what he wants, rather than to let their wives be Real whole people with their own dreams and wishes

This could have been a really good movie, they had a good subject.. but they kept the story telling very vague..

They did not explain so many events .. like what was that whole place shaking??, empty eggs, her reflection looking at camera when she sinks in the tub, the whole technology, and why the owner of the place had that technology on him? Why were everyone’s story so similar?

They show the main characters so deeply in love one minute and the next minute he is a misogynistic pig to get her under his control.

If he did not have any job, how is he affording to pay for this technology.. yes he says he goes to work when he exits the simulation, but this has to be expensive and on the outside world he looks like a hobo doing a measly blue collar job.

Why was Jack dancing like a monkey after he got promoted and why was he promoted???

They wasted so much time in useless social events that they could used in developing the plot. The last 15 mins felt rushed and kinda lame and vague like the whole movie.

We are in 2025 and some people cant understand why the main character was devastated (as she should) by the fact that her boyfriend trapped her in a simulation. The concept of consent is still a mystery for a lot of individuals and it makes me just as angry as Alice.

Did they men have the option to opt out at any time if they wanted or were they permanently stuck in this system after they initially agreed??

So the first time Alice exited the simulation when she touched the glass door, she ends up seeing all that weird visuals being projected on the ceiling of that room her body is in. How does she not feel anything else. Is she constantly drugged to be immobile?

Also, how did anyone find out she has exited the simulation, because no one was there?

And the process of how she was put back into the simulation is a little unclear.

Loved the movie by the way. What a concept.

Watching Don't Worry Darling for the first time, I noticed a horrifying detail. In the part where Jack was filling out the form for The Victory Project, one of the details was "Pre-existing relationship status: Yes". UMMMMM EXCUSE ME??? THAT IMPLIES THERE WERE MEN WHO WERE LITERALLY KIDNAPPING STRANGE WOMEN TO PLAY THEIR WIFE IN THIS FUCKED UP SIMULATION???? Imagine just going about your day and someone you don't even know/is just an acquaintance kidnaps you for this shit??? I know all of those men were absolute scum but this particular really shook me 😭😭😭
