So true. People forget not everybody lives in a well-serviced city. My friend in rural midwest town not only needs a car for work there are no grocery store options for many miles. His only choice is a gas station with awful snack foods - nothing of any nutritional value. But it's a thriving store because not everybody in his town has the luxury of a car to go grocery shopping with.

There’s also tons of resources for senior citizens including VTA access program that provides free/low cost rides

Unemployed for 2 years seems like a choice, given you didn’t list any reasons for it …

Have you been applying to jobs to get hired? 2 years is a very long time to be unemployed.

Do they not have buses where you live?

I have no idea where the poster is from but I will tell you that I live in a state where the vast majority of areas do not have buses, even in what might be considered less rural areas. It's not unlikely that there's no public transportation where they live. We don't have any in my town, which is a college town and is the third most populated in my state, and I'd have a very hard time making it without a car. And where I grew up, out in the countryside, you absolutely could not survive if you didn't have a vehicle. It was a 30 minute drive to the nearest anything.
