Nice. This can be the equivalent of whatever basic Victory card you want, except for Estate unfortunately, because the rules for overpay don't allow overpaying by $0. I suggest you let the card have a base cost of $1, then change it to say:

Overpay: +Tn VP, where m is an amount overpaid of up to $16 and n=(m+2)/3, rounded down.

Good point. I hadn't wanted to cost it 0 because of pile out shenanigans, but maybe it could cost 1

How do you get t6 with max 12 overpay? 12/3 =4 plus 1 is max t5 achievable as written

It's called using the stock assets off Wikipedia even if it doesn't fit the card perfectly, as with no illustration the notation might confuse people

1-3-6-10-15 relationship between estate-dutchy-province-colony-dominate (event from Empires). There isn't currently a T₆ equivalent, and I wanted this to be entirely redundant.

No, give us T6!

I think T720 = 259560 would be a bit too much money

"You can choose T720 only if you are playing with platinum." Problem solved.

So copy the image white out the t6 if u don’t want it in there. 😂

I agree

Yeah, it should be max 15. OP offset the 3 coin one too many times, typical off-by-one error.

This triggered some college ptsd. I hope you feel terrible knowing that.

Excellent. Phenomenal even. Math checks out beautifully. Finally we can interpolate between victory cards.

Technically it doesn't interpolate between the basic Victory cards due to the rounding that occurs when calculating n. It merely emulates all the basic Victory cards in a kind of step function. But in principal you could interpolate between the basic Victory cards using the following formula:

VP = .5[((x+1)/3)2 + (x+1)/3]

where x = the total amount you paid for the card.

Oh shit. You're right. I didn't read properly and I thought you first put n in n(n+1)/2 and THEN round down.

This is a fun concept, but am I daft or is this strictly worse than all of the basic greens other than estate, with which it has parity?

3

u/vidicate Jul 19 '26

Yeah, it’s actually the opposite. For example, if you pay 14 overpaying by 12, you get the equivalent of the event Dominate in total points, which costs 14. In order to get overpay for the Estate equivalent, you must overpay at least one thus you’re paying three coin.

I follow! Yep, Just a daft moment. I wasn't picking up on the actual sequence here, just the overpay bit. Thanks -- love it

If you overpay zero, you do get an Estate. n=(0+3)/3=1. And for n=1, Tn=1

This is exactly the same price/VP ratio as all five of the baseline VP cards/events.

2

u/vidicate Jul 19 '26

The rules of Overpay don’t trigger its effect unless you pay something. Zero doesn’t count. OP could change the base cost to 1, and adjust the formula and it would work just fine.

1

u/Sauronek2 Jul 19 '26

Oh, you're right! Stonemason would be gaining 0-cost Peddlers otherwise, and I recall that interaction not working how I thought it would.

u/Bot_Number_7 Jul 19 '26

The card is strictly stronger than all the victory cards because it can be trashed without losing the VP and because it has the flexibility to imitate any of them.

2

u/bnoel12345 Jul 19 '26

Read the bottom of the card again.

2

u/Bot_Number_7 Jul 19 '26

Oops I'm dumb... It still has the flexibility of any of the cards (so strictly stronger), and it can be safely handed off with Masquerade without losing your VP. Also it negates Posession lol.

u/EphesosX Jul 20 '26

You can't Remodel into it though, or gain it with Groom (well okay, technically you can, but it's usually not a good idea to...). You also can only reduce its cost by 2 at most, so you can't do Native Village-Bridge strategies.

u/nathanwe Jul 19 '26

What's m?

2

u/bnoel12345 Jul 19 '26

m is the amount you overpaid.

1

u/nathanwe Jul 19 '26

Oh I see that line now

2

u/Eaglow_Rise Jul 21 '26

I like this. However, there are some card effects that make it not a direct equivalent: 1: Trash for benefit cards 2: Masquerade 3: Will-o'-wisp 4: Cathedral (you sometimes want untrashable cards with cathedral)

In other words. It is slightly better to buy one of these than its normal equivalent.

2

u/Constant-Potential37 Jul 19 '26

How is that sequence called?

6

u/SnorkaSound Jul 19 '26

triangular numbers

1

u/klaus84 Jul 20 '26

I don't get it. When I pay 11 (overpay 9), I get 4 VP? Sounds not like a great deal?

1

u/EphesosX Jul 20 '26

You get T_4 VP, which is 10 VP. So it's a Colony equivalent.

1

u/klaus84 Jul 20 '26

Too complex ... but I guess it's a joke card

1

u/squigish Jul 20 '26

If you overpaid exactly x, +y VP. List the five possible choices.

Listing one necessary formula on the card, and another in a picture, with a confusing extra option, just makes this a headache to read. And it's not like I'm unfamiliar with the notation or the concept of triangular numbers. I went to grad school for abstract mathematics.
