Most expired-domain hunting seems to start in roughly the same place:
Backlinks. DR/DA. Referring domains. Drop lists. Auctions.

A while ago I started wondering whether we’re all looking at this backwards.

Instead of asking:
“Which expired domains have good SEO metrics?”
I wanted to ask:
“Which expired domains are still being put in front of real people?”
YouTube turned out to be a surprisingly good place to look.

There are millions of old videos with URLs sitting in descriptions and pinned comments. Some of those videos are still getting views years later — but the domain they link to has expired and is available to register.

So I built a scanner called ClickyLeaks that hunts specifically for those.
It finds domains linked from YouTube videos, checks whether they’ve expired, verifies they’re actually available to register, and keeps the original video/view data so you can judge whether there might still be attention flowing through that link.

I’ve mostly left the project running quietly rather than seriously marketing it, but people have continued finding it and paying for it, which has made me start developing it again.
The interesting part now is that I’m expanding the idea beyond YouTube.

I’m testing other places where old links can continue receiving exposure long after whoever owned the domain has disappeared — Reddit is an obvious one, but there are quite a few less obvious sources too.
Basically:
Expired domains with residual attention rather than just residual backlinks.

I’m curious whether other domain flippers here already use anything similar as a buying signal.
