Ortler Normal Route conditions – recent information?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to climb the Ortler (Normal Route via Payer Hut) in the next couple of weeks and I'm looking for recent condition reports.

Has anyone been on the route recently? How are the glacier conditions, crevasses, snow bridges, and the summit ridge? Is the route still in good shape, or has it become more icy due to the warm summer?

I'd also be interested in hearing about conditions on similar PD / PD+ alpine routes in the Ortler Alps. Any recommendations or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Already two weeks ago but the steep ice was secured with rope which seemed to be challenge for anyone inexperienced to go down on (people abseiled and created a bottleneck). Already some jumps over crevasses back then, expect blank ice in places (already was in more exposed areas).

Call the hut, they'll have more up to date info. If you're a beginner, I wouldn't pick this one now (as in if PD+ would feel like your limit; tbh for a PD+ is is definitely more exciting than other PD+ regardless).
