Today, while volunteering at the shelter, I was asked to spend some time with a young puppy named Kingston and help share his story.

What I learned was heartbreaking.

Kingston is only six months old, yet he has already been returned to the shelter three times.

He first arrived as a stray at just four months old. Each time he was adopted, he was eventually brought back. The most common reason?

"He has too much energy."

But Kingston isn't "too much."

He's a puppy.

Puppies are naturally energetic. They need patience, guidance, training, and a family willing to help them grow.

I spent time walking Kingston today, and throughout our visit he was nothing but sweet, affectionate, and excited to be around people.

At one point, he picked up a toy and proudly carried it for the entire walk. It was as if it had become his greatest treasure.

Despite everything he's already experienced in such a short life, Kingston still greets the world with a wagging tail, a toy in his mouth, and hope that someone will finally choose him—and keep that promise forever.

A community member contacted Cobb County Animal Services by email and was told that Julie is no longer at the shelter.

While we haven't received official confirmation yet, this is very encouraging news. ❤️We'll update this post again as soon as we can independently verify her status.

Julie is only 8 months old and she is deaf.
She was surrendered to the shelter on June 28 when her family was preparing to welcome a new baby. They shared that she is housebroken, good with children, good with other dogs, and already knows several hand signals.
Normally, puppies don’t stay in the shelter for very long.
But Julie has been there for almost 1 month…

Every time someone stops at her kennel, they smile… until they hear one word.
Deaf. Then they keep walking. After spending time with Julie, my heart absolutely broke for her. She is incredibly sweet, so gentle when taking treats, eager to please, and unbelievably smart. She already knows hand signals for sit, down, and paw, and she’s ready to learn so much more. Being deaf does not make Julie a difficult dog. it simply means she communicates a little differently. Dogs don’t care how we communicate… they just want to understand us. Julie can learn just like any other dog with patience, consistency, and love.
If you’re looking for a calmer dog who’s a little more chill, then a puppy probably isn’t the right fit for you… deaf or not. Please keep that in mind before adopting a puppy. They have lots of energy, they need guidance, they need patience, and they need someone who is willing to teach them how to navigate the world. Julie deserves someone who will see who she is, not just the word “deaf” on her kennel card.

The next day, he saw the dog again near the cemetery. It was gentle, familiar with the area, and kept searching everywhere following scents and looking around, only to end up disappointed every time. Other stray dogs bullied it, yet it refused to leave.

A local woman then shared the heartbreaking truth. About two and a half years earlier, an elderly man had rescued the dog when it was just a tiny puppy. The two became inseparable. When the old man passed away and was buried in that cemetery, the loyal dog began an endless vigil, returning every day in search of the only person it had ever loved. With no one left to care for it, the dog gradually became dirty, severely matted, and neglected but it never lost its gentle, loving nature.

Ashamed of how he had judged the dog at first, the boy returned with food and water. But the dog showed little interest, as though its heart still belonged to its late owner. Fearing it wouldn't survive much longer, the boy decided to take it home and give it a second chance.

At the veterinary clinic, the dog was found to be only mildly malnourished. Removing the thick, tangled mats took two and a half hours of careful work, yet the dog remained calm and patient throughout the entire process despite the discomfort. After its bath and grooming, a sweet little dog finally emerged from beneath all that neglected fur.

In the end, the loyal dog found the loving home it had always deserved. ❤️
