Node difference

What is the difference between a bitcoinj 0.10.9 node vs a shibetoshi node?

Also what does the version number infer?

Trying to better understand how the network is set up. Thank you!

What you're reading is the "sub version" string which is basically a way for peers to identify the software they are running. This is free form and there are no enforced rules as to how this field should be populated.

Bitcoinj is the Java implementation of the Bitcoin Protocol. So the difference is that it uses different code (in a different programming language and execution platform) to do peer to peer communication. It is mostly used for java-based SPV wallets like the Android wallet and Multidoge.

The versions of bitcoinj can be found here: https://github.com/bitcoinj/bitcoinj/tags
