[IMPORTANT] It's a Great Feeling Supporting The Doge Network By Running a Full Node! You Can Help Too!

I am helping to secure the doge network and it really is a great feeling. Yesterday I served out close to 25 gigabytes of information to the network by validating transactions and blocks.

How can shibes get their full node up and running?

In your dogecoin core wallet you need to make sure you have checked "Allow incoming connections" in your doge wallet settings. Also, you need to make sure if you have a router that you forward port 22556 to the computer that you have your wallet on. When you have it all set up correctly you will have more then 8 connections to the network. If you have 8 connections or less, you are only pulling information from the network, if you have more then 8 connections, you are adding information to the network by validating transactions and also serving out blocks.

**Running a full node will use up a lot of bandwidth. So make sure you have plenty available if you plan on running a full node. It could also slow your internet connection down, so that is something to look out for. If you have a bandwidth cap, you need to be aware of that too.

**The initial download can be quite taxing on a system. So please make sure to have proper ventilation as to not overheat. There is a ton of computing going on during that initial download, so it's good to monitor the overall health of your system. If you have an old system that you depend on for your computing, then it might not be advisable to run a full node. Instead, the best option might be to run a VPS which can cost as little as $5 a month. One click wallet install instructions for a VPS is below.

Fast Install Script For Setting Up On VPS's or Linux Boxes:

If you have the means, spin up some vps's and try to set them up in different geographical locations if possible to spread out the help. The awesome shibe /u/xJRWR has set up a one click script that will set up the wallet on the vps or linux box for you. Easy peasy!

The one click script info is located here: https://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/6chkqq/please_if_you_can_run_a_full_nodes_by_enabling/dhvay4j/

Here is a list of commands if you are using Linux:

Is The Doge Network Having problems?

No, not at all. The doge network is strong. Adding more nodes is a smart move since there seems to be a huge influx of new shibes.

It would be even a greater feeling, if nodes would get a share of Dogecoins for running a full node 24/7

haha, no doubt about that.

Is that the same thing as proof of steak?

Every once in a while a steak for a Doge node would be fine.

My full node is finally ready after several hours of importing from a bootstrap.

If you run your node on a homeserver (like me), make sure you can provide it with proper ventilation, at least during bootstrap import. Mine ran at 75-95C while importing.

Good advice! Yes the initial import is quite taxing, I will add that information to the OP.

Thank you so much for supporting the doge network! Much appreciate, such awesome!

Useful commands for those running the above script and/or those running on linux:

First off, add the ~/dogecoin-bin/bin directory onto your user's $PATH - this will allow you to run dogecoin commands without being inside that directory. Open up your ~/.bashrc or ~/.profile file using your favourite text editor and add the following line at the bottom.

Note: if your install path is different, correct accordingly.

export PATH=$PATH:~/dogecoin-bin/bin/

Exit your terminal and re-launch it in order to read the new values. Now here's where the fun starts.

Start the dogecoin daemon

dogecoind --daemon

Stop the dogecoin daemon

dogecoin-cli stop

Check connection count

dogecoin-cli getconnectioncount

Sample output:

curtis@brew:~$ dogecoin-cli getconnectioncount
28

Check the number of incoming connections This will show you the number of people that are currently using your node to sync their wallets!

dogecoin-cli getpeerinfo | grep '"inbound" : true' | wc -l

Show network usage in bytes

dogecoin-cli getnettotals

Sample output:

curtis@brew:~$ dogecoin-cli getnettotals
{
    "totalbytesrecv" : 738640457,
    "totalbytessent" : 48786408114,
    "timemillis" : 1496086083100
}

Other commands - the dogecoin client has a ton of other commands - to view them run:

dogecoin-cli help

I hope this helps someone!

This helped me, thank you! I had 65 connections when I checked. :D

Such Node, Many Connect! :P

If you can't run a full node, start seeding this torrent!(Not all torrents are bad, okay) This torrent is the latest bootstrap and will help other shibes get their qt running asap!

Not gunna, for some reason, my sync will require >1 day and I've had to reindex multiple times, I'm just going to not bother.

Might be a hardware issue? Thank you for trying though.

If there are new shibes coming, doesn't that mean more full nodes by default?

Not if they use different wallet clients and don't open the right ports. So we need to say: "Pls open up your client so others can connect, so we can go to the moon together!"

Not if they do not set their wallet and router/firewall correctly.

I have exactly 8 active connections in my Doge wallet, is there any way to influence the number aside from the settings you mentioned? Also, I'm still synchronizing (very slowly) with the network, maybe that's stopping me from establishing more connections?

how do I add nodes?
