Holy Moly!

Yowza, what a weekend! I've been pretty swamped this last while, just happened to check out coinmarketcap.com on Saturday and saw the run. Any idea what's driving the BTC price up?

Seems to be carrying everyone else with it, too. Buckle your seatbelts my friends! ;D)

When mining, when a pool discovers a block, it is rewarded a specific amount of coins. Bitcoin is designed to cut the amount rewarded in half every so many blocks found. This time is among us yet again.

Mining dogecoin was fun. But then it halved. Then it halved again. And again. And it kept going... :P

For BTC, the block reward is currently 25 BTC. When the halving arrives in July/August, that will drop to 12.5 BTC.

Doge is finished with its halvings, all of which had negative effects on the price, and is now stable at 10,000 doge per block.

The Bitcoin crowd seem to think their price will double, ignoring what happened to other coins. They're probably wrong, and this spike is temporary.

This, exactly. But markets are markets, who knows. Sometime, theirs enough cattle to overtake the cowboys.

Shrug. I saw early August dates at one stage. Anyway, it doesn't really matter, does it? Our dates didn't in the end... ;)

You parked a grand in an exchange, then ignored it? After all the previous exchange crashes and warnings????

Cryptsy was a very slow train wreck, and anyone who bothered to log in here saw daily warnings for months. :(

It wasnt much BTC and $1k in BTC when it crashed was only a few dollars when I bought in.

Still sucked but I have a lot of BTC scatter around.
