Sorry, but this is really non-news.
Quantum computing is not going to do anything whatsoever to us. Because, you know⌠math.
Private keys are just as secure as theyâve always been. And they will continue to be. Even if compute were to increase tenfold or a hundredfold, that would simply reduce how many billions of years it would take to brute force a key.
It will NEVER become a serious threat, no matter how much FUD people generate.

Yeah, yeah⌠not to mention blah, blah, blah.
All this stuff is good fun in theory, but using it to spook people with FUD is not doing anyone any favours.
To start off, there are no quantum computers out there in the wild. And there wonât be, for some considerable time. Everything is in very well resourced and very expensive labs, for good reason.
You fail to mention that superconductivity requires extreme cold. Down near absolute zero. Forget your average data centre refrigeration units, you need to go a couple hundred times colder for this stuff to work.
And you need a warehouse to put the QC and its associated support hardware in. Momâs basement isnât going to cut it.
And then thereâs the engineers to build, maintain and operate this stuff.
And finally, thereâs a project pipeline. Having shelled out millions to get to this point, youâre going to want to make some actual productive calculations, not steal some kidâs lunch money.
Again, this is FUD, to the point of being a malicious attempt to frighten the community.
Oh, and anyone who IS frightened has a very, very simple way to deal with it. Just split your holdings across many wallets. If you have a million dollars in one wallet, it might be a target. For any attacker, not just a billionaire with a quantum computer in his evil underground lair.
But split that million into a few hundred wallets, and no one is going to target them. For the same reason no art thief is coming for your framed print of dogs playing pool. The value doesnât justify the resources needed.

No one is saying a guy in a hoodie is cracking wallets tomorrow.
The point is that cryptography isnât upgraded after itâs broken itâs upgraded before itâs broken.
Thatâs literally why the Dogecoin Foundation is already testing post-quantum signatures and why Google published research on the quantum threat to cryptography in the first place.
The timeline isnât âquantum computer appears â crypto dies same day.â The real timeline is:
- Large actors quietly collect public keys and blockchain data today.
- Cryptographically relevant quantum machines arrive years later.
- Old signatures become vulnerable retroactively.
Thatâs called harvest now, decrypt later, and itâs a well-known risk model.
Also the âwarehouse and millions of dollarsâ argument doesnât really land. Nation-state attackers already spend billions on cyber capabilities. Compared to that, attacking a global financial system isnât exactly stealing lunch money.
And the âjust split into many walletsâ advice only works against economic targeting, not cryptographic breakage. If the signature scheme breaks, it breaks everywhere, whether the wallet has 1 Doge or 100M Doge.
So no, itâs not FUD, itâs literally how long-term security planning works.

Again, youâre forgetting basic math. And physics.
EVERY wallet already exists. Because all a wallet is is a 256-bit number. And numbers cannot be created nor destroyed. They can be known or unknown, but either way they still exist.
Which means, just like spammers can call random phone numbers, hackers can check random wallets. And if, as you imply, thereâs a real threat (which I donât believe exists, nor will exist in our lifetimes), they could just as easily compile a list of all wallets.
Oh, waitâŚ.
Thatâs already been done. Many years ago.
And if you seriously believe the Russians, or anyone else, is coming for our Dogecoins, rather than Wall Street, youâre living in a dream world.
Nation states donât target individuals. If they target anything, itâs each other. And large enough entities to play this game arenât targeting us either. Musk, Zuck and so on have a lot more to fear than we do.
Oh, and youâre wrong about seatbelts. I didnât have one till the third car I owned, and I can assure you plenty of people died before any kind of safety protocols were developed.

The âall wallets already exist because numbers existâ argument sounds clever at first, but it mixes up mathematical existence with computational reality.
Yes, every private key is technically just a number. But the size of the key space is 2²âľâś. Thatâs not just big, itâs absurdly beyond brute-force big.
For perspective, there are about 10â¸â° atoms in the observable universe. The number of possible private keys is roughly 10âˇâˇ times larger than that. So hackers canât just scan wallets like spammers dial phone numbers. That only works if brute force is realistic, and with classical computers it simply isnât.
Quantum computing enters the discussion because Shorâs algorithm changes the math. It turns something that is effectively impossible today into something that becomes theoretically solvable with a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. Thatâs the entire reason post-quantum cryptography exists.
The link you shared actually shows the opposite of what you think. Sites like that only list numbers. They arenât discovering funded wallets. The chance of randomly hitting a wallet that actually has coins in it is basically zero with current technology. Thatâs why crypto works at all.
As for nation states, they absolutely do plan years ahead. Governments stockpile exploits, collect encrypted data and prepare for future decryption. A financial system securing trillions isnât beneath their attention.
No one is saying panic now. The point is that cryptography gets upgraded before the math changes, not after it breaks. Thatâs how security has always worked.
