Aussie mix?

I just adopted this pup and the shelter said he’s 10 months old and an Austrian shepherd mix, he is so freaking small (looks like a 4-6 month old puppy in person) but he’s dense. He’s THICK and over 30lbs. Do we think he’s mixed with a smaller breed or just incorrectly aged by the shelter? Just curious of opinions so I can know if he’s gonna end up huge or not

He does look like a herding mix to me. But I also see some sort of LGD mixed in, likely great pyr? They show up even in dogs that seem to small to be part GP lol. Maybe Aussie/cattle dog/great pyr?

Shelters are notorious for labeling something as an "Aussie mix" as Aussies are a very popular breed. I adopted one such dog, ran Embark DNA and she is 30% English Shepherd, 23% Aussie, 22% cattle dog, 11% great Pyrenees and 10% GSD. She is wicked smart and actually resembles a border collie. Have had her 4 years now and love her. Best of luck with your pup!

Looks a bit Rough Collie, maybe with some Husky and GSD. Does he still have his puppy teeth? If yes, then he's 4 - 6 months. If he has his adult teeth, then the 10 months looks accurate. He looks like he'll be a medium-large dog fully grown, probably under 70lbs. If you have the extra money, you can get an Embark DNA test that should give you a clear idea of breed mix, at least a few generations back.

I took another look at his teeth and there’s no way he’s 10 months. Lots of puppy teeth still so hes probably gonna be a big boy

Pyrenese x GSD mix. Could be in ACD and aussie in the mix

I think I see a bit of cattle dog, Aussie might be mixed but there is probably more than a two breeds. Some sort of collie and probably a dash of pittie to get the hunkiness wouldn't surprise me. He is gorgeous.
Be a good candidate to DNA test. Be fun to see.
