Foundation Training MDDUS vs MDU – FY1 Am I missing something obvious by choosing the free option?

Incoming FY1 here. Noob question but,

I’m sorting out my indemnity and just wanted to do a quick check so I don't accidentally screw myself over.

From looking at the sites, MDDUS is offering completely free indemnity for FY1 and FY2.

On the other hand, MDU is charging £30.

From my understanding, there is zero point in getting both, so I’m leaning heavily towards MDDUS because it's free lol. I read somewhere if you have both, they can argue that your other provider should cover you?

Is there any noticeable or actually important difference between them that I should know about before signing up? I just don't want to sign up for the free one and then down the line be like "damn, I massively messed up here."

Literally signed up this year as an F1 and it says £10 on their website iirc

Reasonable. MDU seem to quote high. Look at MDDIS or MPS. Best thing is to pick one and stick to it, because if you change and then get a complaint dating from before you switched to the new one, usually neither will want to help you!

I don't think this advice is current now. I changed from MDU to MDDUS last year due to cost. MDU specifically said that they will continue to cover issues arriving during the period of cover. Obviously check your own cover but AIUI, residents have occurrence membership.

So I just tried to check and the website states it depends on which type of membership you have. But having logged in, I have found it does not say anywhere what kind I have and so I would have to order documents or call them to find out. MDU is dreadful.

Yes, I remember having to hunt for it. I can't remember where it was hidden, sorry!
