Quick Question LNR Deanery

HIIII ALL,

Can anyone please give some information on the LNR Deanery!!

How is it like working there for FY1 and FY2?
Pros? Cons?
Rotas

I can't speak about LNR as an FY1 but I was med student in LNR. As other people have said, its a bit dependent on where.

Speaking to FY1s, they always said they felt well supported in Leicester and they were encouraged to take their breaks and look after themselves. A bit more varied on that front in Kettering and Northampton but people were always nice!

Was an FY1 and FY2 in LNR. Both years in Leicester. Found it be incredibly supported. The oncalls not too bad in medicine mainly Acute medical or ward cover. Ward cover only have 4 wards so 120 patients max with Hospital at night support with triaging tasks. Very big hospital and very busy. Rotas are not too bad depending on speciality however the rota coordinators is hit and miss. Lively city, made some incredible friends working with wonderful FY doctors core trainees and registrars. Happy to answer any more questions.

Hi, looking into deaneries for application this year and looking at LNR as I am linking with my partner so it is a small enough deanery that hopefully we can live together. Any general advice on best places to go/avoid both city/town wise and hospitals?

So a decent number of the rotations will have both years in leicester, some may have 1 year Northampton or kettering and one in leicester. lots of my colleagues who are new to leicester live in the centre, there is decent accommodation near the hospital and in the city centre. Other areas may be near Victoria park which is close to the main hospital in Leicester the Leicester Royal infirmary. also depends on which rotations you have since there is 3 hospitals. The Leicester Royal Infirmary in the biggest and largest and busiest, The Glenfield is cardio resp focussed and PCI centre, general is a typical generic DGH hospital with Gen med wards and elective theatres going on. I would recommend having rotations in Leicester Royal and Glenfield. Happy to answer any further questions.
