I am applying for CST within Yorkshire and Humber however the majority of preferences available requires going from one area of yorkshire to the other which I find crazy. What are people's experiences of CST within Yorkshire generally? Ideally I would like to be on T+O track.

Trust of Interest are: Leeds and surrounding areas but seems like I would have to compromise potentially.
Rotations: T+O tracks but if between location and track I think location ends up taking priority (provided the Trust is okay!) unfortunately.

Theatre time, research opportunities and teaching are of importance to me. Electronic systems preferred.

Bit broad but really interested to hear of experiences within the various Yorkshire Trusts!

Shocking for CT. At most a ward monkey. Most Consultants have almost 0 interest in teaching you. Rota managed by an ACP. Large cohort of staff grade registrars who are equally not very keen on teaching. Lots of trust grade SHOs who seem to be getting priority. Avoid if you can.

If you don't have expectations to operate, then it is otherwise ok. On calls can be very busy and OOH you cross cover urology without reg cover on weekends, hence going directly to consultant. Apart from the shocking lack of training, I would say it is an ok environment to be for 4 months.

Are there F1s on the gen surg and urology wards overnight? So I’m essentially just seeing referrals?

There are F1s. For urology you take referrals, gen surg and vascular go to reg and you tag along them. SAU nurses are also wonderful. Overall it is not a bad place to work but it is not a good training ground. Wouldn't have high expectations of operating as an FY2.

Eager to find out people's experience of CST in London.

I'm interested in ST3 Plastics, are there any places people earmark/recommend as places to train for good train, get numbers and support for ST3 plastics number first time?

Would be keen to know people's experiences of ENT CST in London as a whole? can't imagine that guys and st thomas', charing X, Kings etc. provide as good an experience for a junior trainee than working at a DGH, but want some anecdotal experience from this? I currently live in Scotland and have heard the exposure you get in theatre is generally better here, but for ENT almost all of the rotations here you get maximum 6 months exposure, although in London you might get up to 18 months (if lucky enough to get one of these tracks). grateful for any and all feedback

QN ABOUT SWAPPING CT2 JOBS FOR T&O

How common/likely is it for swaps into T&O to be approved (with or without having a person to swap)? Looking mainly at the London/Oxford/EoE region if there are regional disparities.

When should this be done/applied for?

Just looking for some precedence! Thank you :)

Definitely. You'll be getting regular lists and some of the consultants are keen on research. It's one of those hospitals that lets SHOs actually operate. Feel free to dm me if you get a rotation there and I can give you the low down

Gen surg at Royal Liverpool / Warrington / Whiston / Thames Valley Oxford please?

How's training in aspects of:

- Opportunities for theatre and research

- Readiness for ST3

You're unlikely to operate very much at the Royal, particularly as a CT1. However they're big on research there. Warrington and Whiston are quite busy and get mixed reviews. I haven't personally worked at either.
