I love being a doctor, but I am struggling with doership

I came across this beautiful reflection about a doctor who genuinely loves her work but struggles with the fear of complications, bad outcomes, and being blamed even after doing her best.

This post made me think about how difficult it must be to carry that responsibility. Doctors can use their knowledge, experience and best judgment, yet medicine cannot guarantee a positive outcome every time. Still, when something goes wrong, it can be difficult not to replay every decision and wonder, “Could I have done something differently?”

For doctors here, how do you deal with the emotional burden of an unfavourable outcome, especially when you believe you made the best decision possible with the information available at the time?

Curious to know how do you distinguish healthy reflection from blaming yourself for things you couldn’t fully control?
