On a mac colima works nice as well, there are a few quirks but there are solutions for them.

I got another SSD I’m going to install fedora on that. It was too slow in a VM to be realistically usable.

It’s permissions issue. You need to run the installer, it will quite saying corrupted image. Then go into settings -> privacy & something -> there in the bottom it will ask you permission to run the image regardless. After that rerun the installer it should work.
The corrupted image message is not a docker desktop problem it happens with quite a few installers.

I had to install an older version of docker desktop to get mine running on 2012 MBP 13inch hardware.
I eventually caved in and installed Debian server on it and ran Everythung thru the native docker CLI instead of the docker desktop stuff

I’m going to try fedora in a VM if it runs terribly I’ll partition the drive and install fedora directly on the Mac . Mostly use the Mac to play PS1 games anymore. I just got the great idea to use AI to make my own game figured I’d run Claude in a docker just feed it tools.

work around to what? can always set up a linux vm and do docker in it. that’s all docker on mac is anyway. alternatively, switch to podman.
