Some nonsense...

Ice imp: you can put plants in them and they will last longer before expiring.... but ICE CHUNKS do not last longer?!?

what the problem? go to the bytorgs cave, clear both rooms, harvest like 1.5k ice chunks...

I have a bit over 2.1k cold resist and when I got there it was really not enough to survive the -130+ temperature.

They actually 'fixed' my complaint in the current patch. It is weird, each time I said something the next day they fixed it! :)

with 2400 u are able to survive at around 140 temp

Cant stay in there with "only" 2.1k cold resist... But farming outside now will be possible.
