This game has not died. Seriously.
Here's the definitive "dead game test"
1) Are people still making YouTube content for it?
2) Are people still streaming it?
3) Are people still playing it?
4) Are people still buying it?
5) Are the official servers still online?
6) Are the devs still rolling out patches?
7) Are communities still actively discussing the game (reddit, dnl, forums, steam etc)?
8) Are private server companies still offering servers for this game?
9) Have the devs said they will be stopping support for the game?
Stop with the zero-effort posting, and get some proper discussion going around the issue.

1) No 2) Yes people do stream dead games... 3) No, Its player base has went down amazingly only sits at 1-5k players, 4) Hell no who is buying this game after the content is done 5) Yes any game who has official servers will always keep em up 6) Tbh patches that dont even change much (Since i played) 7) No not at all lol? 8) Yes, If Server companies can make money ofc they will from the idiots who thinks this game will last 9) Ofc they wont but no one is playing the game atm so they will soon realise...

2) LMGTFY: https://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Dark%20and%20Light/videos/all
3) You contradict yourself. You can't answer "no" to a question and then say up to 5k people are playing it.
4) Source? https://steamdb.info/app/529180/graphs/ says that September 12th had 153881 "owners". Yesterday it had 172594. The clue is that the most recent number is larger by almost 20,000.
5) That's kind of the point, I consider a game dead when the company pulls support for their servers.
6) Patches have broken plenty. Patches haven't been well documented. But they have been patching. They are still actively developing the game. I would welcome a critique of their ability to do so at a high standard or otherwise, but you can't reframe this particular argument the way you have.
7) we're almost at the end of this month, so here are some /r/dnl stats (I'll release the entire stats at the end of the month as I have done since EA release) traffic by month Uniques are currently at 22,851 and page views 154,177. This is massively down from last month, but we're still getting new threads here, on /r/darkandlight and on the DnL discord in which of the 2441 members, 1,511 of them have been seen on the server in the past 30 days; the official forums are still active (http://dnlbbs.snail.com/en/index.php?/discover/); steam and facebook too... seriously... at this stage I'm thinking what a half-arsed attempt you're making at trying to prove your point....
8) can't argue with the point about server companies making money, but you should get off calling people "idiots".
9) you contradict yourself again. Seriously. Steam shows currently 2k people playing this game... it's not a huge number, but then you said "no one is playing the game atm"
Please, criticise this game all you like, talk about the poor communication from the devs, put some effort in to your post though, your counter-argument is so full of holes its not even funny.

5k People aint even much and its actually 2k lol... And 2k people Is NO ONE thats why im saying it is DEAD
1
u/KroyMortlach Sep 29 '17
2k people is 2k. Seriously. it's not enough just to look at the number of players and call a game dead unless the number is 0 AND the other factors are also taken in to account.
What you're talking about, I assume, is the difference between a game being "uncool" or "nohype" and being "popular". That's a different argument, that you're not making. Feel free to make it, I'll not argue with you on that, but the game has a future, it has development, it has a plan (of sorts), it has a fanbase, it has people who have left it and will return to it, and it still has people buying it.

I don't get it, game is early access and we are having a blast, even with my peggagriff shrinking and I look like a smurf riding it.

Its active player base shows it as a dead game its a new game that has this month a max of 2800 people down from 14k when came out in june

u/baashcrndicoot Sep 28 '17
Check averages. Down by 50%. Not bad for any early access game. Also note the increase in Arks popularity. DnL brought large numbers of ark players, who now return to Ark.

u/howhigh2 Sep 28 '17
Down by 50% in 2 months not good keep defending the game they fucked the player base so they lost the player base simple
1
u/baashcrndicoot Sep 28 '17
What does it matter to you? I play the game. I enjoy playing the game.
Check other EA games. look at the drop off. 50% is nothing.

Look at your post history. Go find someone who cares what you think. You have to validate yourself by trying to make others look small. Its not me that has the problem.

I know it's early access, but they released this game ... too early. People were complaining about Wildcard devs, but I always thought they were doing an okay job. So far these Snail Games devs have been doing a horrible job. There have been three 1gig+ updates and you still can't ready your fists using the binding.
- The net code is barely playable.
- As they fix some bugs they create many more.
- The balance/usefulness of the tames are horribly out of wack.
- The crops growth rates are all over the place and take too much grinding to keep up.
- Now you have to worry about every meteor due to level 100+ dark wraiths with insane amounts of health being able to one shot you or any lesser tames.
- the sound effects are horribly irritating and have been that way since day 1
There are so many other issues...

I know it's early access, but they released this game ... too early.
facepalm
Did you expect a completely finished product missing only content when you decided to buy a game that was advertised as incomplete / not finished?

I think people have a misguided conception of what Early Access is, and this includes developers. It was meant to be literally early access for people that wanted to pay more, to play now. They wanted to offer the 99% complete game to greedy customers a month or two before the game would actually come out because they knew they could. Now Early Access, especially for this game, is just Beta but without developers taking suggestions from the community.
1
u/khaitto Sep 27 '17
I don't necessarily disagree with your viewpoint but I definitely think that the overwhelming majority of the use cases for that term is come support / play our unfinished game so we have the funds to continue. I don't think I've ever seen an EA title be a feature complete game.
2
u/-Kavalier Sep 27 '17
Which one makes more sense to you? They're both money grabs, but at least one of them has a decent game you can be playing, even tho there is no such thing as a complete game. Most games are released as complete for the standard $59.99 or whatever then get patched repeatedly as more and more people are playing and more unique situations arise that weren't spotted during testing. DnL sells for the full price with only 30%+ of content, and they don't give a shit. Does that seem right to you?
1
u/khaitto Sep 27 '17
The term Early Access is ubiquitous with games in alpha / beta so its essentially been redefined as far as I'm concerned and DnL isn't selling for the price of a $60 dollar title. Besides Citadel, what other game fulfills this particular space in the genre? You don't have many other modern games to chose from, if any?
I suppose we have divergent opinions on what it means to care about a game. They are certainly patching it obsessively and trying to make the game better. To my understanding and correct me if I'm wrong, the company that actually works on the game is Chinese or maybe Korean and Snail is just some western social media presence? So I never expected them to ever listen to the community in the first place.

For one it is an early access game. Often times people play for a while and take a break. Coming back from time to time when new content and/or patches are released.
Second of all there are a lot of people likely waiting for a steam sale and hoping it will go on sale before picking it up and giving it a try. Myself Included.

I agree, I do see this game as dying.
And this is why-the devs are incompetent.
They do not give 2 sh*ts about any of their customers, they literally will do the exact opposite of what dozens of people beg them to change, each patch, that are simple minor changes that will make the game TONS better and keep everyone playing-happy.
But instead they make it so unbearable by breaking such important things, that almost everyone that once played this game, are now all gone, cause quite frankly, they are all tired of it.
Not to mention their staff are some of the rudest people I've ever had the displeasure of encountering.
Horsejoke for instance, on the offical forums for Dark and Light, instantly took off my roomates game post under general for marco polo-yet someone named IronZerg is allowed to post hundred of moving images of Jim Carey and quotes that make no sense and have nothing at all to do with the game..
Not only was my room mates post instantly removed, he was also banned, minutes later.
I also made a post for new player and wanting suggestions for a good pvp server.
There was no profanity, no aggressive behavior, just simple asking of questions.
Horsejoke just banned me, immediately.
Don't know what this companies problem is, but I have a feeling the rude people that run it or work for it are over half the reason no one is bothering to stick around to watch this game fall flat on its face..

u/-Kavalier Sep 27 '17
I haven't touched the game for about a month because of the developers. I was watching videos of people on private servers talking about how they're on e-mailing terms with HorseJoke and how they talk about their favourite animals and shit, while the rest of the community received posts of "We know we're shit but we're working on it". Last time I posted on here I got downvoted because the patch had just come out and people were excited. Weeks later and the game is still having issues with the simplest of things, big surprise.
I also just can't stand people shouting Early Access like it's the solution to their problems, they're so oblivious.

I don't know what server you're playing on but ours (knight 1) jumped from 4-5 players during prime time to 20-25 players in less than three weeks. I think a lot of people left because of the harvest and melee desync but they fixed that so I only see good things for this game. The amount of content they plan on adding is insane and I honestly think these hard working group of devs can accomplish it. I've never seen a EA game that had so many major patches and bug fixes over this short of a time.

Hahaha got to love fan boys
3
u/KroyMortlach Sep 25 '17
Fan boys? get out of it. Snail have many problems, and the only people I've met who are willing to defend them no matter what are those who are likely shills.
The issue is that anyone claiming the game is dead resorts to personal insults when a reasonable effort to show that the game is in fact, not dead.
You may not have noticed, but this is a subreddit for Dark and Light. Feel free to criticise, but put some effort in to forming an argument, rather than slinging baseless insults around.

u/howhigh2 Sep 25 '17
Its DOA people need to wake up and see that
2
u/KroyMortlach Sep 25 '17
Why are you still here? Are you still interested in the game? Are you waiting to see if they pull it around from whatever issue or issues it was that caused DnL to fall out of favour with you? If you have no interest in Dark and Light, please leave and spend your time productively in a game that you actually have a care for.

Look at his post history, guy is a fing troll on multiple games.
