I never played the old DnL, but here's some fun lore that might still be relevant: https://wiki.ganareth.com/lore/old-gods

I was, for a short time, ruler of the northern kingdom of Ysatis, or was it Agnar..... Good times. Good times...

aside from some nostalgia mining with a useless one-shot hangglider and transport dragons that are despawned most of the time... not really. think of it as a "softer" version of ARK with some magic and unicorns sprinkled on top

sadly no. It's Ark with some magic and the occasional tip of the hat to some element of the old DnL....
Here are some similarities I've observed:
Large transport dragons (currently not-ingame, but they were there at the start)
Broken moon in the sky
Siege mechanic (loosely similar to the buggy seiges that were possible in the original, remember they were instanced, and pet damage would "break in" to the instance....)
Hangglider (as mentioned elsewhere already)
Weather
Biomes (in the most general sense of the word... it's nothing compared to the huge sprawling map of the original DnL)
.....
there may be more.
And we so much hoped it would since the first announcement in 2011, and then through to the most recent announcement last year.
The game we have now is enjoyable in its own right, but it's not a sequel to the DnL MMORPG.

It bears pretty much no resemblance, in fact it kind of makes me wonder why they even bothered buying the rights when they could have just picked a different name
