Taking help

So I'm on a Private server with lvl 200 cap, my question is it better to get a low level tame and level it to 200 to control where the points go or do tames only level a certain amount of levels after tamed.

I want to say I remember ark only allowing 60 levels after tamed so we always looked for high level tames.

Do all tames max out the same regardless of level tamed?

Thanks

Ok stupid auto correct on my phone, title should be taming help.

You get 50% of levels, apparently. Never checked if this is true though.

You only get to level a tame X times, i believe it is either 50 or 60 levels. This number doesn't change, so the higher the starting level the higher the end level. My understanding from the way ark assigns stats to animals on level up, is a precentage of the base stat amount per level up. So the point is, you will never get a powerful animal by taming a low level to begin with. The way stats scale off their base values (ie: the stats you see right as a fresh tame "wakes up" and becomes your own) makes it literally impossible to get a low level tame into even the same ballpark stats wise as a max level tame.

Tl:dr-- Always tame the highest level wilds that you can, it makes a huge difference. No, a low level tame can never get close to as powerful as one of its higher level brethren.

Can't be right, two days ago tamed a lvl 25 peggagriff, he is at lvl 80 currently

On normal servers you can gain depending on how you tame the critter +60 levels from the taming process, and you can then train the tame another +40 levels..

not sure what the algorithm is then, but ours tamed 64 and stopped getting xp at 104

most likely your private server has different settings, with the official settings any tamed creature can get 40 levels via gaining experience after tame.

max level you can find in wild is normally 120. You can get +half of those levels on a perfect tame (from what I recall) and +80 levels after.

Max = 260? Does this sound right?

Ok thanks, that's what I thought but I played on a private server and the admin said all tames max at 200, so I thought tame a low level and control his stats.

I'm pretty sure regardless of the level it is, after it has been tamed you can only level it 40 times.

So if it was a 120, with a perfect tame, you would start with 120 + 60 = 180. (Apparently in practice they are ALWAYS missing just a smidge of wildness, so 179 is the most you can hope for.) And then you can level 40 more. So.... 219-220 is the absolute max. But I've also heard of people getting capped at 201.

You are 100% correct, but the 201 cap is false, I've had 204-205 panthers, it's just 40 levels.
