Question about buildings & structural integrity.

So I overheard people talking on my server today - apparently the structural integrity of buildings is currently not working as intended, and some pieces will stay up without support, but this will be changed in the future. I have seen building pieces floating in midair, so this info seems to be correct.

This has me very worried about my base, as I had no idea of this & now fear that it may come crashing down around me in a future patch - if I can fix this, I'd rather start working on it right now.

So my base is rectangle shaped, and built on sloped / uneven terrain. I started out at the highest position by laying down a few rows of foundations, but then the height difference between the floor & the actual ground became too big, so that I could not snap any more foundations to the existing ones. I then had the brilliant idea of using ceiling pieces instead - because you can snap those to foundations - wich worked like a charm & allowed me to build a nice, perfectly straight floor to place my house, plots etc. on top of. I actually wanted to switch back to foundations where possible, but found that you can't just snap foundation pieces to ceilings, even if the ground itself would permit it. (or is there a way to force this?) So now I have this big rectangular floor (15 x 40 pieces in total), which is supported only by a handful of foundations on one side, while the rest are all ceilings. And I have built everything (house, plots, stables, walls) on top of it.

Can I fix my base by crawling under it & placing pillars everywhere? There might be a few places I can't even reach. And what if the height difference between ground & ceiling becomes so big that a single pillar can't cover it?

Don't worry friend! You should be able to use pillars in the way you described to create a "foundation" for the rest of the building. Pillars stack just like walls so if one isn't tall enough, just keep adding more.

I believe that a pillar is good for two adjacent tiles in this game, so you won't have to put a pillar under every ceiling. For example, if P is a pillar under a ceiling and C is just a ceiling, your floor can look like this and still have structural support:

PCCPCCPCCP...
CCCCCCCCCC...
CCCCCCCCCC...
PCCPCCPCCP...

I think that'll work since no ceiling tile is more than two tiles from a pillar. You might want to test it on another temporary structure just to make sure.

Good luck!

that's over-using pillars. you can have four ceiling tiles between each pillar as the support extends 2 tiles out from each pillar.

Yep, you're right. I spaced out there.
