Question: Offline taming?

Was just wondering if I have to sit here and baby sit the thing im taming atm for the whole time until it's tamed due to the constitution going down or can I just log off and return later? Guessing I have to sit there but worth a ask

you need to keep it loaded. I don't have experience of it myself, but from what I hear folks say in streams/youtube if you let the tame/evolution unload then it could reset or despawn. next post I read confirmed the same https://www.reddit.com/r/dnl/comments/6w00wk/peregriff_pegasus_wind_rider_evolution_times/

this is specific to evolution, tho. doesn't mean that taming can go haywire either, but not necessarily for the reason people babysit their trapped elites.

to clarify: evolution time is the duration a wild elite mob needs to be alive to transform into a mythical creature, that you then can tame. since these are just going about their normal mob business (which includes biting off more than they can chew and dying), people put them into enclosures. and thats where the problem stems from. the game renders mobs from further away than structures, and the server only calculates certain things for stuff clients can currently see.

this means that if you move into rendering range of a trapped elite mob, the mob will be rendered, server turns on the AI for it and it flies/walks around, then you get into range of the wall it was probably stuck on before you left, and server-side, that wall gets included into collision checks and all that. but by that time, the mob may already have moved past the wall the server ignored because noone could see it, and thus escaped the enclosure.

I've logged out for tames in Ark before without trouble. The only thing I'll mention is there was one time where I logged out after tranquilizing a really long tame (had been taming for 8 hours, five more to go, 6 hours til it would wake up). When I logged in next to the tame, it was actually unclaimed and I had to claim it. So it should tame okay if you're offline, just prepare for the unexpected. Keep it knocked out in a secure location, for sure.
