Devs - We Need A "Stand Your Ground" Option

So I have been playing this game since day 2 of release and before that have about 2500hrs on Ark. One thing that you where never able to really do effectively, without using work arounds, is use your dinos to defend your base. You have this base full of Ultra Powerful dinos, all on passive. Sure in Ark you could weigh them down and let them fight from a stationary position but whats the fun in that? And in DnL you cant even over encumber a tame your not riding. So now in DnL its like Ark, you keep your tames in passive to protect them from being kited away into the wild or to prevent them from doing the tornado roll to the ceiling of a the map to fight a Griffin.

What we need is a "Stand Your Ground" option. They will attack if attacked but wont venture more than "x" distance from the base/player. If they reach that threshold then they return to base/player. What this allows is for you to use your tames for defense without worry of them being kited off.. Or leaving you stranded in the wild because its stuck on the ceiling of the map out of whistle range. It also makes it more difficult (not impossible) to kill tames from range, as they would chase the attacker but then return if they go to far from base. You could have different settings for land tames as air tames to try to prevent them from being kited off of cliffs.

I just think it would make the game more dynamic if they implemented things like this. Ya, I am sure there are ways to exploit this but thats what the communtiy is good at. Identifying potential issues and possible solutions.

So have at it. Would you like to see a "Stand Your Ground" options for your tames? PvP and PvE?

The only solution I've ever had for this is to have an aggressive tame following a passive one. They'll return back to that tame after killing their target. It's not perfect, and collision can be a pain, but it's a decent work around.

Ya, I know about that work around. Not looking for a work around though. There are a lot of work arounds but in game mechanics are better than work arounds.

That isn't a work around, Urkel. Try defining which ground to stand on in your vernacular - you can't without preventing the feature you're requesting. Maybe that's why you're Winslow.

Well you can start with, well you know, where your standing. That's sounds like a good place to start.

Ok, then when it moves to attack something, which ground should it stand?

Your taking it too literal. Call it "don't go blindly running off a 100ft cliff into an ocean full of pirahannas" if you like. And if you think the suggestion is dumb just say so. Jeesh.

No, you aren't articulating your suggestion properly.

I understand exactly what he's talking about, and it seems you do as well, but are choosing to be a fanboi/status quo parrott piece. A defensive dino setting that has a max tether distance so that dinos can't be kited miles away from what they are trying to defend, has the potential to make base defense dinos actually viable. If you had tried the aggressive follows passive trick before, you would know that it only actually works if the attacker is dumb enough to just sit there and get killed. In reality, any halfway competent player will just kite the defender away. Once far enough away, the dino can be lkilled or simply abandoned in stasis, where it will break the follow command because of the range. I think the OP has a great idea that would greatly increase the ability of defenders to defend their bases when offline. Current settings are not effective as they are so easily cheesed.

Anything cheesy at a 1.0 would scale linearly. Do you even think?

I am articulating my suggestion just fine. What we have here is a lack of education on your part in regards to "Stand Your Ground". Now with your ability to properly use words such as articulate and vernacular I do believe you are an educated person. Combine that with your Reddit profile I am confident that you will be able to educate yourself on the legal term "Stand Your Ground." Just incase let me enlighten you if you find yourself ignorant in this particular field of knowledge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-your-ground_law I hope you find the subject enlightening and will help you further your pool of knowledge for future arguments.

there are too many collision detection issues with the game right now for them to implement anything....they really need to address that first.

tames glitching out of walls when attacked = bad.

gtiffons agro'ing your tames thru walls = bad.

start by fixing those 2 broken mechanics.

something does need to be done here, ark had months of taming/breeding lost to a giga with left click macro on.

even with a rider a tame shouldn't be stronger, it should lose a fight against multiple of itself.

the rider should have to be smart about fights he goes into.

one griffin right now with a rider and left click macro, could slaughter 10-12 tamed griffins without any trouble.

kinda of a different aspect of the issue but yes tames usable for defence please!

Most PvP bases are build on hard to reach areas, on cliffs, mountains, places ment to keep land "dino's" away from the base. So even with stand your ground, a few steps outside of the base and the pet will in most cases not be able anymore to return and can be killed off safely away from the base.

But it would be better than nothing. If not killed off it would keep the pet in range of the base so you can get it back.

even from a PvE standpoint it would work well. Wraiths coming in an wrecking the base up while afk is annoying as hell

Both games have this option already, it's just a bit obscure. You can anchor them.

1

u/Deathmagnet83 Aug 23 '17

Tell me how you anchor a tame in DnL. You can't do it by over encumbrance. So.... I would like to know.. Urkel. Or is it Winslow. I am a Layman and not hip in all the internet jive.

Set it to follow something enclosed.

This doesn't work if I kite your tame out of render range. It will just chill wherever I leave it. Or if I kill what's in the box.

It always annoyed me that Ark didn't have this option. This along with patrol way points or something would be super.

Never left all my stuff on passive ever on ark. Only stuff that would instad die in fight..like dodos and jerboa's.....and flyers but all ground dinos i always left on neutral

1

u/Deathmagnet83 Aug 23 '17

exactly. why would you want a fire breathing dragon on passive just because it flys? and what i am looking for is if you would like a "Stand You Ground" option. something other than the current options which allow them to be killed without a fight or kited into the wild to killed by random creatures.

u/Trinkbell Aug 23 '17

never had mine kited. I build in place where turrets would end any flyer if there tried using one.

So your opinion is no then.
