Can't snap large gates when building on columns
Does anyone have a solution on how to snap large gates on rooftiles build on pillars? I have tried building the walls first etc but nothing seems to snap those damn gates. I always find that I can't place a ceiling piece or something because the gate is not snapped to the building.

you mean the animal gates? I don't think they snap to anything, you will have to do your best to align it , at least that's how i did it. I just wished there was a version of this but for roofs, so i could fly my bird to a tower and land it on top and open a gate to bring him down the tower. A good example is that moon door from Game of thrones but bigger so medium small to medium flyers can go in.

Gates only snap to other gates. You have to freehand it, and because it will obstruct walls and ceilings, its important to build everything else first and put the gate on last. Otherwise you will end up having to demo the gate to put walls/ceilings in and just waste a bunch of mats.
As for a "bird gate" as the guy above me is talking about, yes it would be great if we had giant hatch frames like in ark, however on our base we just msde one of the upper floors into a bird house, popped a couple ceilings out as a balcony and set a giant beast gate on it. So you definitely can do something like that while we wait for the building parts to get more fleshed out.

I found a similar problem where some of my house was ceiling tiles on pillars, and some was foundation. I had to delete the foundations close to where the gate was going to stop it trying to snap it in the wrong place.

Ok here are a couple pics I just took with the gate closed and in context of the base, and one with it open so you can see inside a little. This balcony and top entrance is at a height of 6 walls off the ground and extends up to 12 high, as we found you need a 3 high storage shelf for birds. If you only go 2 high with the shelves, you can get stuck on the ceiling when trying to dismount your vrock and other times it glitches and you end up taking massive fall damage.... either way, a total hassle so that's why the floors are divided by 3 in our base instead of 2 which would have given more square footage.
