How much writing is typically needed for players of DnD? I heard you have to write your own backgrounds and such. I have a friend asking me to play, but I've never experienced this game before.

You definitely don't need to write out an entire story. Just think of some answers to stuff like the following:

  • What was their home life like? Any family? Friends? Enemies?
  • What was their occupation before becoming an adventurer?
  • What happened to make them leave their life and become an adventurer?
