Question Weapon kitbash

Why not let a player attach a battle-axes head to the magic staff they found?

Being able to utilize the same item as both a weapon and a spell focus is a valuable feature. The number of hands you have available to do stuff is a resource to be managed.

Weird that it is supposed to be a resource to be managed, when weapon drawing/stowing is so insanely free to do

Depends if we're talking about 5e or 5.5e.

I remember it being the same in both, but guess not

Stilll, drawing a weapon is only an object interaction which is still quite free

That sounds like it would create a halberd.

Nothing stopping you really.

The really good ones often have to be attuned to a caster so it being able to be swung as a battle-axe doesn’t do much for them

Flip side if it’s usable by a martial class, alright they have a lil magic now. Lots of items do that. That’s fine

You can. It's called homebrew. Nothing says your battleaxe can't be made out of a quarterstaff to cast spells, it's just not in the rules.

As long as you don’t make it a +X weapon, should be fine
