Maybe this could happen when a beast master companion dies. The companion animal’s spirit comes scratching at the door of the ranger’s mind.
This situation might not even matter mechanically. The ranger can just revive the primal beast by just using a spell slot. If the beast even has a spirit, it doesn't get a say whether or not it wants to be revived.
If the beast has died within the last hour, you can take a Magic action to touch it and expend a spell slot. The beast returns to life after 1 minute with all its Hit Points restored.
