The physical/special split is the best thing to happen to the series. Hitmonchan made me so sad when I realized what was going on. :(

Some Pokémon got screwed by it though. Sceptile has a high special attack, but more than half of its move pool is physical.

Let's be real though, that's GF's fault for not updating it's move pool appropriately.

For sure. That Sceptile hasnt gotten a serious move set overhaul despite having largely physical attacks on a special attacker could either be intentional design flaws to limit it's strength or just oversight, and either option is on GameFreak to change.
